What's everyone's opinions on chewing gum while on the job?
Just curious because I love to chew gum but I feel as though no one in my hospital does it.
sorry if i raised anyone's blood pressure but, anal or not, this thread just happened to hit one of my pet peeves.now, shall we move on to people who don't stop completely at stop signs?!
(just kidding)

I was responding to the point someone made regarding gum chewing being "harmless". There is better evidence that it is harmful, than any pleading the opposite (funded by manufacturers of gum).
Someone call hospice for me. My days are numbered. I've been chewing gum since I was a little kid and am obviously dying. I'd call hospice myself, but the phone keeps falling out of my hand from all my drooling.
sounds kinda scary!!! :chair:kathy

i'm kidding . . . .just had to pull your chain a bit:clown:. blame my husband, whose life goal is pulling my chain.
btw - i never snap, pop, blow bubbles, or otherwise make a nuisance of myself.
although i did notice a man chewing gum in church the other day (i had some too so i wouldn't blow bad breath on anyone as i sang the worship songs) . . . .but it is a bit distracting to watch someone chew. although that may simply have been because of this thread!!

I'm here, I'm here!! Hospice nurse to the rescue.
As to all the scare stuff about sugarless gum - there's lots of research that says it is fine.
Years ago there was an email that went around from some supposed researcher . . I think her name was Karen something-or-other . .. anyway, it blamed every known disease on aspartame . . . .then there was the one about Arm and Hammer being controlled by satanists. I think after these things is when the urban legends websites started up - snopes.com is one.

you can chew all the gum you want when you come to hospice...comfort you know...however, sounds like many wouldn't consider gum chewing as having anything to do with dignity.
This is true - my esphageal cancer and lung cancer patients are still smoking cigs. You can chew gum if you want to.

i knew you were! i'm a smart aleck (or something...) married to one. my big fat mouth frequently got me in trouble as a kid and, even now, it still does.

I know! It is very funny really - there are threads on here that always raise red flags . . . . circumcision, breastfeeding, co-sleeping . . . . . but GUM?
Who'da thunk it?
