Actually it's really not that mysterious. Got to pull my first foreign object out of a kid's ear. Ew.

Better than a marble up a kinder's nose!

How far was it? We don't go after stuff in ears- I've had some have surgery to remove rocks up noses/ down ears.

I could see it so I nudged it forward with a Q tip and pulled it out with a tweezers. If it had been farther in I would have said, "No way!"

One of the bosses at my job got a call the other day from her kid's school. Seems her child decided to stick a pencil in his ear and they needed to send him to the hospital to have it removed since it broke off in his ear...I'm actually wondering how long it took to get all of it out.

You can assure your boss that the pencil in ear is common. In my first year here, I sent 3 out to have pencil lead removed from the far reaches of their ear canals. And one to have an eraser removed from her nostril.

Our receptionist broke off a Q-tip in her ear a few weeks ago. Then asked her 12 year old son to get it out...he managed to lodge it in deeper.

Thankfully I was able to get it out on my first attempt. I hate to dig in ears!

Had a little kinder come in a few years ago with a sore ear. Otoscope inspection revealed a shiny, red foil ball lodged very firmly in the canal. Sent them to the Er for removal but they were told it was a swollen ear drum. Gave them drops and ABX. Back to see me the next day w same complaint...i then suggested they follow up w ENT cuz I was darn sure it was a foreign object. Yep I was right. ENT was able to remove the ball in the office, no surgery needed. Made me question our local ER and the competency of the doctor the child saw

Last year a frequent flier told me their ear was feeling funky and asked me to look in there... Much to my surprise, I saw something bright blue! Called home and parents took the kid to the dr. It was the tip of a colored pencil.

My own daughter put 7 (SEVEN!!!) beads in her ear once. She was 4. I'm certain she had help from her brother. They flushed them out with water at her pediatrician's office. It took about 45 minutes to get them all.

I put a pumpkin seed and a blue M&M in my nose when I was 4. I was convinced by my 12 and 13 year old cousins that this was a good idea. One ER trip later, I realized that I could never trust them again!
