GSU Spring 2011 Applicants (BSN)

Published

Hello to everyone,

I decided to start a thread:idea: to find out if there's anyone who's applied or plans to apply to Georgia Stat University's Spring 2011 program. I have already sent out my application package in the middle of August. I know that we won't start hearing anything until October, but I figured it would help reduce the pressure of the wait for us to have discussions about it here.

Hope to hear from GSU applicants soon; and if there are former/current BLSON students :nurse: on here that can give us some advice and helpful words :twocents: it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!!

It's chem1&2, A&P 1 and 2, Microbiology all with labs, english comp1and2 and college algebra. the only pre-req is intermediate algebra before college algebra but I can just take a placement test. I have a full tuition scholarship plus books covered and i'm pretty sure it pays for summer session. Do you have any teachers you reccomend?

You can definitely complete those classes within one year if you include the summer sessions. Micro's lab is a seperate credit but. U can take it along with the lecture. El Mayas is the #1 recommended instructor. I'm not sure who's good for chem. For a&p, Borek and Ross are the better professors. Many say borek is best. All multiple choice. Ross does a lot of case studies. I had ross, got an a. But its just up to your learning style. For comp and math I dunno. Took those classes at another school, but they are basic classes and ur coming straight outta hs, so u shouldn't have issues

Has anyone heard anything? As for myself....if I had you guys would already know it. I'm guessing that is the case for all waiting for their letters. Wishing each of you good news!

I haven't... According to Svictor, the review/decision process just began sometime last week and is gonna take longer than normal because one of the ones that is involved in the process is out on maternity leave. Last fall the first set of letters went out by this date, but I suppose it will take a little longer this time. So.... We have to wait still :banghead:

Thanks SweetPEI!

Svictor!!!! You need to get some more inside info, and update us!

:)

Hey! it's definately possible. there are only like 7 or 8 pre-req's for the traditional option. If you start in the summer it's even better because then you can apply for the following fall and they can see your summer and fall grades during the appliction deadline in the spring. And dude, you can definately use your AP scores to brush off some of the pre-req's. My friend is exempt from Calculus, English, History, and Psychology. They'll just ask for your AP scores. Good luck though! It's really good that you're planning ahead. :yeah::D

thank you! I emailed one of the nursing advisors and she said they would accept my credits but they wont give me points for them when I apply because they dont know if I got an A. I want to have an edge so I decided to retake everything again, she said that my credits would work to eliminate my electives so I could concentrate on only nursing which is good. did your friend apply for the gsu nursing program? did she only have pre-req classes? cause im kind of nervous that i will look bad because i'll only have the pre-reqs on my transcript since I came straight out of highschool and dont have a previous degree.

thanks for your help! what do you think of my schedule.

Summer Chem1 with lab and english comp 1

Fall english comp 2, chem 2 with lab, a&p1 with lab and college algebra

Spring Micro with lab, a&p 2 with lab and statistics.

Also i wanted to join the honors program at gsu because we get 1st pick in classes but im scared that it will make my pre-reqs even harder what do you think i should do?

I think its pretty decent. There are 2 summer semesters so if you can go both I suggest u do. It might a bit hectic for you when u combine chem and a&p maybe u can take algebra in the summer as well because you will have 2 labs and science labs are pretty much their own class as far as the work loads. So fo that fall semester, if you take all the classes u mentioned, it would be equivelent to taking6 classes. For. The honors option its not that bad. Most of the time they just give you extra work and of course u have to keep ur gr

ades up. It might be an extra paper or more pages on already assigned papers. Depends on the instructor. Btw whatever u do, don't take beirne for micro. He teaches it like a class for doctors who have alrady began clinical specific to pathophysiology of microorganism and the diseases

@ICamp ur welcome

As far as updates go... reviews/decisions are still being made. Hopefully by Friday or next week someone will receive a letter. The wait continues

Ok everyone.....I just spoke with the nursing department and 14 acceptance letters have been sent out as of today. They hope to have all acceptance/rejection letters sent out by December 1st.....aaaahhhh!!! The wait is tortuous!! Good luck everyone!:yeah:

That sounds good to me too. I took Chemistry, Anatomy, Micro and Statistics all in one semester and still made Dean's list, so it's definately doable. Don't kill yourself about the honors program though. Dont give your self extra work for no reason. Once you get into the nursing program, there's no more honors, all classes are normal. And honors wont heighten your chances of getting in, it solely depends all on your grades. Also, honors only get to choose classes like 1 day before everyone else, trust me, classes dont fill up within hours so you dont have to worry about not getting a spot. Somtimes it takes weeks before a class is full. This is my best opinion. I'm sure you'll do great, dont worry. ;)

lol Keegan! You know I'll keep you guys updated. lol. Alright guys, so I have some insider news. Thet started sending letters today!!!!! The nursing dept said that they'll be sending more next week and that all of them should be sent out by the 2nd or 3rd week of November. The only reason why it's dragging that long is because the people who get accepted have to send back their final acceptance decision that way the program knows if they have more open spots or not. I'm so nervous it's rediculous. :uhoh3: I'm gonna stalk my mail lady. lol. j/k. The 14 that got accepted means that they probably had near perfect grades. I'm glad it was only 14, leaves more space for us! lol. Good luck everyone. I'm rooting for all of us! It would be awesome for all of us to start the program together and finally meet, you seem like great people. :)
