GSU Spring 2011 Applicants (BSN)

Published

Hello to everyone,

I decided to start a thread:idea: to find out if there's anyone who's applied or plans to apply to Georgia Stat University's Spring 2011 program. I have already sent out my application package in the middle of August. I know that we won't start hearing anything until October, but I figured it would help reduce the pressure of the wait for us to have discussions about it here.

Hope to hear from GSU applicants soon; and if there are former/current BLSON students :nurse: on here that can give us some advice and helpful words :twocents: it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I've been following third thread for sometime but been reluctant to reply....not sure why! I am a second degree student applying for the BSN program at GSU Spring 2011. I've been taking pre-req classes at GSU and currently finishing them up with NURS 2010 and Math 1070. I'm holding my breath til letters go out. I didn't turn my end until the end of Sept. I figured they would not begin making decisions until after the deadline. My overall GPA is 3.5 and made an 85 on TEAS V. I have a few graduate degrees and don't know if they factor those in or not. I was up late working on Stat homework and thought I would take a break and check and see what was going on with the blog. I wanted to get into the conversation. Good luck to each of you and I look forward to hearing from you. The way I am looking at this is.....God planted this desire in me and He will make a way to see it come to be. Talk to you later!

Well thanks for joining in. I totally agree with your last sentence... it is the same way I feel. I figured we all have to go through the wait, so I decided to start this thread.

@BSN37 Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:yeah:on your acceptance from Georgia Southern.

@lcamp99 I couldn't agree with you more! What God wants for us is for us and NO ONE can take it away. If we're meant to get in, that BSN is already OURS!!! So quit worrying guys! Our destiny is already made. L0L. (I hope that made you guys feel better & didnt offend anyone). :D But I will definately pray for all of us! lol. :redbeathe

@BSN37- Congrats on your acceptance! No need to worry much. You know for sure that you have somewhere to go in the spring. :) Good luck on the other schools you're waiting for.

I check this post every day to see if someone has got an acceptance letter.

This wait is taking forever!!!!!

@Keegan Yeah this wait is intense, but unfortunately we have to do it for a little bit longer. I spoke to one of our advisors yesterday who I'm very close with and she said that since the main nursing advisor went on maternity leave, the other advisors have been trying to pull everything together without her. She said that they're not even done reviewing all the applications, let alone made any decisions yet. It's taking a little longer than they've anticipated because of the new baby. My application status online shows that they havn't even opened mine yet. :uhoh3: Uuughh, the torture continues...:crying2:

 Noooooooooo! Ok, let me compose myself. Thanks for the update.

Btw, the app status will stay like that ("Complete - Ready for Review") even after they, review, accept and when "WE" acceptees complete an inital questionaire and registration online, so that is not something I would look at. You're gonna torture yourself even more.

SO....... I wanna take my mind off of the wait since svictor1 has let us know that the reviews have way longer to go...

Question Game:

1.Why have all of you decided to become nurses?

2.What specialty, if any, do you want to go into?

My Answers:

1. I initially wanted to become a teacher, but one day when I went to visit my grandmother in the nursing home, she was not at all in a decent state. She had food all over her, her entire bed was soiled and they had the nerve to cover her up with the sheets/blankets as if we wouldn't uncover her. We were furious. We visited her the same day same time every week, so at least they could have pretended for us! My mother mad noise that day. We cleaned her up and made her comfortable. The next weekend she died and it hurt me so much because the last time i saw her was in that bad condition. From then I promised her I would make a difference and help someone else's grandmother to leave this earth with comfort and dignity. I became really involved in volunteer and community work and fascinated with how the body works. I realized how much nursing meant to me and that's why I want to become a nurse.

2. I want to be a critical care nurse. I love working under pressure and find the few moments available to make a difference in someone's health status a miraculous event

What about you?

@SweetPEI I almost had tears come to my eyes :crying2:. It's a shame how they treat some patients, its quite rediculous actually. I'm sorry for your loss but it's great that you're going to use that to make other peoples' lives easier. :yeah:

1. As for me, when i first started at GSU I was a Biology/Pre-med major. My dream was to be a neurosurgeon. I did tons of volunteering at the hospital, and shadowed my own physician. When i paid attention to the relationship most doctors had with their patients, it turned me off. Doctors barely communicate and have personal relationships with their patients. They come in the room, sign off on a prescription & leave. And I as well saw how some nurses treated their patients and it disgusted me. This is a person's life we're dealing with; and I vow to be part of the new generation of nurses that changes things. I love people & I have a rediculous passion for wanting to help heal people so nursing seemed to give me the more personal side of medicine. I want my patients to be able to contact me whenever they need me. I'm also EXTREMELY energetic & hyper so I need a career that's demanding and keeps me on my toes. I lOVE staying busy. lol. Also, EVERY woman in my family is either a nurse or a doctor so I seemed to follow the family tradition. :nurse:

2. After my bachelor's, I plan on applying to nurse anesthesia school and getting my Master's/pHd in anesthesia. Or perhaps a DNP degree (Doctor of Nursing Practice), which is a pHd degree as well. Just like you SweetPEI, I'd like to work in ER or trauma. I like action. lol

And the ironic thing is, my parents both already have Masters degrees in something else but they're at Clayton State University working on their BSN. They just got accepted to the nursing program there (yesterday), so i'm the only one left waiting for a decision . As soon as I get a decision, hopefully it's good so our family can have a celebration dinner. lol.

Thanks svictor1. Not every woman in my family is a nurse but there are lots of them, including my mom. Its funny that you mentioned anesthesia because that is my long term goal. I don't want to put too much pressure on myself though, so right now the goal mark to reach is bsn, specializing in critical care. I don't know what you think about it because your reason could be totally different from mine, but the thing that fascinated me the most about it is the challenge. Well you did say you like staying on your toes. I know exactly what I want to do and where I want to go in life and it is refreshing that someone else does as well. I don't know if I would want to go straight into after the required minimum cc experience because I want to to do traveling. I figured I can do travel nursing, although they do have locum tenen positions which could still allow me to travel. Ive always wanted to do travel nursing.

Also, it would be a beautiful thing for you for the legacy of nursing to continue. I pray that you and I both get accepted. (as well as others, of course)

What do you think about travel nursing? Would you ever do it?

Congratulations to both of your parents! :redpinkhe:yeah: Forgot to mention it
