Hello to everyone,
I decided to start a thread:idea: to find out if there's anyone who's applied or plans to apply to Georgia Stat University's Spring 2011 program. I have already sent out my application package in the middle of August. I know that we won't start hearing anything until October, but I figured it would help reduce the pressure of the wait for us to have discussions about it here.
Hope to hear from GSU applicants soon; and if there are former/current BLSON students on here that can give us some advice and helpful words
it would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks!!
svictor1- Thank you for the update. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one posting during the wee hours of the morning. After repeated attempts to get online, I realized the glitch on the GSU link to application status. Checked my application status and got the same message Tuesday that it is complete and ready for review. (My last name is at the beginning of the alphabet.) I'm getting anxious to know something but my anxiety won't help one bit! I'm going to try and keep my mind on other things.....like stat! :-) Good luck everyone!
Ok... I should have asked you guys when you turned your app in. I thought y'all were referring to the"complete and ready for review" status. I turned mine in in august, so the monday our tuesday after the deadline that was my status and that's the status that I was saying that stays even after acceptance. They have just begun reviews... My last name starts with N so I have to wait a while as well.
Tick tock... Tick tockk
1) Why I want to be a nurse?? I had no "uh oh" moment where all of a sudden I wanted to be a nurse, and I don't have any story for why I choose this career path. But science has always turned me on, and I've always though of nursing as a respectable job. I just want a career that allows me to make a difference in people's lives.
2) I have no idea what I want to specialize in, but I would like to be a critical care nurse.. I want to see the crazy stuff!
@lcamp99 You sure aren't the only one up this late. lol.
@SweetPEI I turned in my application at 4:30 on the day of the deadline (Oct. 1st). I'm the worst procrastinator EVER!! I was the 2nd to last to turn it in. Some girl ran to the office after me as they were closing the doors at 5:09 and turned hers in. So I know I was one the last ones to be reviewed whether it's alphabetically or when we turned our applications in. But I'm sure we'll hear something within the next week or two. I'm going to start camping out near my mailbox.
I know the anxiety is killing us guys but we have to keep our minds off of it somehow. One thing that's been helping me is planning for the worst. I've been thinking, if I dont get in, I'll fix what they want me to improve & try again for next semester and I'll definately get in. By the way, if you dont get in, they tell you what the reason was and how you can change it to make sure you get in the next semester. I'll make sure if I hear anything I'll update you guys. My friend's last name starts with A, so once she gets a decision, I know the time is near. lol
hey! I have some more questions for you guys while your anxiously waiting. Do you think its possible to finish all the pre-reqs for the traditional program in a year? (summer, fall, spring) i took a bunch of AP's which cover a lot of the pre-reqs but they dont give me points for those so im retaking them all anyway.

It would be very strenuous but I believe it is possible. My first year of college I completed 35 credits. I am not sure how many and what exactly is required for the trad program though. Also keep in mind that many require prerequisites that cannot be taken with the actual classes.
Look at what exactly is needed. find out how many classes require prereqs, also you may have to take some sequence classes which cannot be taken together. You can take up to 18 credits per semester. Summer has two semesters and there's may-mester. So if you have the funds and are willing to dedicate yourself it might happen for you

Hey! it's definately possible. there are only like 7 or 8 pre-req's for the traditional option. If you start in the summer it's even better because then you can apply for the following fall and they can see your summer and fall grades during the appliction deadline in the spring. And dude, you can definately use your AP scores to brush off some of the pre-req's. My friend is exempt from Calculus, English, History, and Psychology. They'll just ask for your AP scores. Good luck though! It's really good that you're planning ahead.
Hi - I have my BA but I need to take some pre-req's before I apply to nursing school. For those who have taken their pre-req's at GSU, did you do so as a post-baccalaureate non-degree seeking student? I'm looking into GPC as well...any thoughts? Thanks!
I am a post baccalaureate student, but many if my prerequisites were completed when I was getting my first degree. I've always completed my classes with a declared major. I'm not exactly sure what it is that you are asking, but I do know that you have to declare your major as nursing prior to applying for the program. Hope this helps. I'm sure you can take classes in the mean time, but need to declare before the deadline in whatever semester you apply.

It's chem1&2, A&P 1 and 2, Microbiology all with labs, english comp1and2 and college algebra. the only pre-req is intermediate algebra before college algebra but I can just take a placement test. I have a full tuition scholarship plus books covered and i'm pretty sure it pays for summer session. Do you have any teachers you reccomend?

SweetPEI, traveling nursing sounds awesome! I actually wouldn't mind doing it either. We have our whole lives ahead of us to do as many fields in nursing as we want. That's the joy of nursing, so many options.
And trust me, I pray every second I get, for all of us! lol. And btw my parents said thanks & good luck! lol
Okay guys, so I have good news. They review the applications in alphabetical order. Once they're done reviewing I'm sure you already know that your status changes to "Complete-Ready for Review". Up till yesterday I've been constantly checking my status and it said "Georgia State has not yet reviewed your application". But today, I checked and my application status was finally updated, it said that all my requirements are Complete & Ready for Review! My last name starts with the letter 'V', so this means that I was most likely one of the last few people to get reviewed, (And I also turned in my application at 4:30 on the day of the deadline...lol). So now that they're most likely done reviewing everyone, they're going to start making decisions. So from this point on it's mailbox stalking time!!! Last year someone got their letter on Oct. 18th. So starting next week they're probably going to start mailing letters. I'm getting more nervous by the second!
