GSU Spring 2011 Applicants (BSN)

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello to everyone,

I decided to start a thread:idea: to find out if there's anyone who's applied or plans to apply to Georgia Stat University's Spring 2011 program. I have already sent out my application package in the middle of August. I know that we won't start hearing anything until October, but I figured it would help reduce the pressure of the wait for us to have discussions about it here.

Hope to hear from GSU applicants soon; and if there are former/current BLSON students :nurse: on here that can give us some advice and helpful words :twocents: it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I saw that too! Hopefully we will hear good news in the next few weeks :) Good luck

Yep, I saw that too! The excitement and anxiety wants to kick in, but I'm holding back. Remember, the deadline is oct 1st, so I'm gonna start my waiting period on oct 2nd, lol... Who am I kidding?:banghead::banghead::banghead:

Good luck to everyone!

Thanks for the reply SweetPei. Does anyone know exactly which classes make up the "program gpa"?

I already had my Bachelor's degree in business prior to going to GSU and took the following classes at GSU in order to apply to the nursing program:

Bio 1103 & 1104 (Received A's in both)

Anatomy 1 & II (Received A's in both)

MicroBiology (Received A+)

Abnormal Psychology (Received A+)

HHS 3000 (A)

Nursing 2010 (A+)

I feel very confident with these grades obviously and worked super hard to get them; however, the program GPA must consist of more than just these classes and I need to go back to my transcripts to figure out my program GPA.

Any help would be appreciated. Oh..my TEAS was a 92%...which I was super excited about because I studied for over 2 weeks and was so anxious! I'm hoping I get in because I only applied to the ACE program at GSU...(probably not a wise idea)

Wow!! You did great on the TEAS. What study manuals did you use?

@kwheeler- I purchased the ATI TEAS version 5 study manual as well as the 2 online practice assestments. Without them...I would have done horrible! I swear by them and don't know how anyone could do well without them....well.....at least anyone who took basic algebra, fractions, long division, etc. more than 10 years ago :) I graduated high school in 1997; therefore, have not had to do math without a calculator for a VERY long time and haven't even come close to thinking about grammer/punctuation in the past 10 years. :lol2:

I have a question that you guys may be able to help me on...the GPA requirement; do they look at your cumulitative GPA or the GPA for the prerequisites/nursing program. I have A's on everything in the program...unfortunately I stink at History and some other irrelevant courses for Nursing which brought down my GPA. I really think that they should look only at the prerequisites because they shouldn't penalize someone that has perfect grades on all required courses but stinks at History. History for example, is totally irrelevant to Nursing.

I would appreciate your help! Thanks!

today, i went to the open house for the bflson. the nursing labs have been moved from kell hall to the brand new, petit science center. i met a few people who are on the committee for reviewing the applications. they haven't started looking at any of the applications, and they plan on beginning review of the applications this coming week. if you haven’t seen the facilities yet, they’re amazing!!

hey guys! i know that since the deadline is officially over, our torture of waiting begins . but hopefully this forum will make us feel better until then. i have some info for you guys! :D i spoke to a nursing advisor on friday (10/1), and i asked her if they had 300 applicants like last semester and she said no, they didnt get as many as last semester. she also said that what they do to begin an acceptance criteria is gather all of the statistics of all the applicants (program gpa, teas scores, letters of rec, etc.), then choose a cut off point based on the grades of everyone.

here's a hypothetical situation:

if most applicant gpa's are very high, anyone under a 3.7 gets cut. (so you need at least 13 pts from your gpa).

if most teas scores are 80's and above, everyone under 80 gets cut. (so you need at least 7 or 8 pts from your teas).

now if gpa's are mostly low, they might cut anyone under a 3.5. (at least 11 pts needed.)

and if teas scores are lower, they can make the cut off 75. (6 or 7 pts needed)

so basically, once they know what points range they're looking for, they make decisions based on that. here's the link to the points system, just scroll down and its done by "bdanders" : https://allnurses.com/georgia-nurses/gsu-spring-2010-a-422333-page2.html

hope this makes you guys feel better! :)one of my friends started the ace this fall and she had a 3.75 and an 80 teas, but my friend who had an 3.8 and a 79 didnt get it. it dawned to me that even though they both met the gpa requirement, the other one didnt meet the teas requirement even if she had a higher gpa. oh and just sharing my stats, i'm a 3.79 program gpa, and 87 teas. feel free to ask me anything! i love to share news. ;)

@Keegan5858 Great stats! You scored the same as me on the TEAS, (well i was an 87). And I scored in the 95th percentile out of GSU program applicants. That means only 5% of applicants scored better than me. Out of lets say 300 applicants, thats only 15 people with a better TEAS score. So with your 88, you can only imagine. How more competitive do you feel now? Hope this made you feel better! ;)

@bebe they only look at your program gpa, which includes all prerequisites for nursing. If its not a requirement then it's not a part of you're program gpa.you can look on gosolar to see what exactly makes up that gpa. History is a part of it I believe, but if that was the only class you did bad in, I won't worry about whatsoever because that would mean your gpa is high. They do, however, focus on your math and science, but more so your science.

@svictor1 thanks for that info. Which nursing advisor did you speak to?

I also heard that there were not as many applicants as last semester. This only increases or chances to be accepted so I'm happy about that!

@SweetPEI I believe I spoke to Angela. She's on of the advisors who actually processes the applications.

@bebe Yeah, the program GPA includes all of your area A-F classes plus your pre-req's, which are Anatomy I & II, Chem I and II, Micro, Ab Psych, Statistics, HHS 3000, Nurs 2010. They all must be completed if you want to do ACE. But if you're doing traditional, they only count what you have so far. Sometimes your program GPA will be the same or almost the same as your institutional GPA. But if you've ever taken a class over, only the highest grade goes on your prgram GPA, so most people have a higher program GPA. Or if you ever took any extra unnecessary classes that dont go towards your major, they dont count either. Hope this helps!

Thank you very much for your reply! You made my day!
