Does anyone know how to read GS pay scales for nurses. I know that we are a Title 5 or 38 job so we don't go off of general gs pay scales.
I am interviewing for a GS 10 job at a military fort. I cannot find the right pay scale to see what I would be looking at for pay.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thank you

try this if you already havent General Schedule - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia i think this is state wide
here is for 2010 2010 General Schedule Pay Scale this is nation wide
Karma thank you for the response. This is my problem. It is very easy to get pay scales for general jobs, as you found, but as nurses we are under a special pay scale.
I was told this was a $70000 salary position. I will have to relocate and I don't want to be the person that asks " is that pay correct" before I interview. I just cannot find anything to back that salary up.

If you're relocating, I don't think it's wrong to ask what the salary is. I accepted an Army job overseas told that all the RN's were GS10 positions even though the listing said 35K-80K. With 20+ years of experience, I ended up making less than when I was a new graduate (just over $19/hr). The scales have a wide variation that really don't let you know where you fall on the scale.
I still don't regret it because I truly do love my job here and the satisfaction of being part of the mission has no monetary value. But not all of the nurses that have come here feel the same way. If you are picking up and moving across country, I think you're entitled to know what your salary is going to be. Good luck.
i would call someone Vet Affairs or someone they have to know or know the person to talk to answer your question. Just trying to help

I am currently in a temp GS 9 Clinical Nurse RN position and have 30 years experience. In my RN position the pay scale range started @ $47,4000- $80,000(something) I am being paid $53,500- I can't even make my monthly necessary bills(mtg, electric, property taxes, let alone a leaking roof and non working oil furnace) for that I am very devastated. But like you- I love the job, love my coworkers, my superiors and being honored to be a part of the mission- to keep the military personel and their families as healthy as I can by giving them the best possible care I can. My dad was retired military and I think he would be proud. But this pay is really bad- If they extend me, I have to get a second job. If you don't have big housing expenses and a family, then this is the best job there is in healthcare.
Even my civillian nursing supervisor couldn't believe that is all their paying me with my experience- apparently, experience is revered in the military nursing world another nice thing from the civilian world.

Hi I was working at Madigan Army medical center as a Psychiatric RN until I quit a couple months ago. I was a GS 10 which was around 32.00 an hour.
Thank you for the info. This is a relocation but not far. This position is a supervisory type RN job at a clinic. Nurse Lacey's pay was about what they told me. I only make around $45K right now so 60K would be a pretty good salary. Not to mention the benefits.

Additionally, you get automatic step increases (which never happens in the civilian world) and you can get a retirement check!!
