Hi all,

I am new to this site and new to nursing - hopefully! I am applying to the LPN program at GL Tech evening division. Is anyone else here going or has gone to that program? I am taking the NET in June (the last test date) and I just ordered study materials. I have to pass it because it is the last time they offer it!!! I am 40yrs old and completely changing my career so I am hoping I am not the oldest in the program if I get in. So send out a hello if you are going to the program at Lowell Tech.

Thanks

Susan

Yay! I couldnt wait to get home to check the mail!!! These books are over $800 on amazon!!! I didnt go on the website that we are suppossed to order from so I didnt see any cds. Are you going to order new or used? Are you going to sign up for the CPR course or are you guys already certified. It seems REAL now dont you think!!!! Hope the old posters come back to tell us about graduation!!!

I'm going to talk to my friend tonight, I'll ask him if they actually used the CDs and such or not.

Hey you guys.....what are you gonna get for shoes - the packet says white professional shoes but I was wondering if sneakers were ok.....I wore asics when I did my clinical for CNA and they are awesome - I really want to get them for Lowell....any thoughts?

First....have you talked to your friend who graduated - I want the scoop!

Hey again girls!! I was looking to rent some of my textbooks from Chegg.com or Ecampus.com. Its way cheaper than buying them used. I dont have any idea what I am going to get for shoes. What do you guys think? I will definitely be taking the prep course but not the CPR class because I am already certified. Oh man it really does feel real now!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHH:yeah: Screaming from excitement :D

Ok ladies! He said the CDs weren't used last year in classwork they're more of a study aid. So my guess is, not required! I'm definitely buying used because 800$ for books is a little too rich for my blood ;)

Who is going to the uniform fitting today???

uh oh....I thought it was tomorrow - cant go today - I think we can still go to the actual store though

and order uniforms from them right? I'll prob go next week sometime. I just organized all the books (cant

believe how many - and a lot are backordered).

How is everyone doing....getting nervous yet?

Yes you can definitely go to the store and order straight from them. I know the amount of books is crazy right?? lol I am getting slightly nervous but its mosty excitement! How have you been Sawyer?:)

Ladic...I am freaking out! After all this time waiting and its here in 5 weeks!!! This is such a big change for me since I have been working in my own/family business for the past 20 years. Its hard to imagine now that its almost here that I am changing my life so drastically. I know that going to LPN school is the right thing for me but deep down, every so often I keep having these little doubts that I can succeed. But I thought that way about the CNA course I took and I ended up w/ the highest grade in class (altho I know I cant compare it to the LPN program). But it really is exciting too, to be making such a big change at this point in my life, I know so many who cant even if they want to because they have too many responsibilities. I am also worried about finding a job when weh finish because this economy is so horrible. I know I shouldnt be worrying about something thats is a year away but my savings will only go so far! But I am trying to stay positive and push those annoying thoughts out of my crazy head. Oh yeah and I have been relaxing, reading for pleasure, watching movies, going to the beach and spending as much time with my friends and family before life as we know it is OVER!!!!

How are you doing? Did you go for the scrub fitting? I'll prob go next week. What kind of shoes are you getting or already have for clinicals?

Specializes in Nursing Assistant.

:)Hey Sawyer! I did not end up going to the fitting but I am going to attempt to go to Hero's this weekend and put in my order. I also still havent gotten shoes for clinicals yet. I have no idea what I should get for that lol. You are gonna do fine in this program I guarantee it! You landed a perfect score on the NET and you passed your CNA class with flying colors!! I don't think you give yourself enough credit. As for job opportunities I would recommend volunteering somewhere that you would like to work. Places are always looking for volunteers and the fact that you are already in an LPN program can only work in your benefit you know. Thats what I am currently doing at Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital. For the summer I have just been working at my CNA job and trying to spend as much time with my family as well before it all starts!! I still havent been to the beach yet!! Im slightly depressed by that but the summer isn't over yet. :D:D

Hi all,

shoes- as long as they are completely white, nothing else you should be ok.

CD's- don't need them at all, just used to study- not many used them as far as I know. Questions in all books are important. IE: end of chapters etc.

Books-Tabers,Davis Lab and Nurse Pocket guide are critical- you will use them often if on list. the two Notes lpn and med/surg I never opened, don't have time or space to use.

I used a wheel bag for the first term, couldn't carry all my books, by end of year just book bag.

Uniform- watch is cheep piece of crap- most broke, you can use anything with a second hand. Lots didn't use the lab coat. If you cold you may want it, if your usually hot don't really need it. White socks are imperative, many spoken to about wearing them.

Think I answered most, I will check in again. Good luck all. It is an amazing journey.
