U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hi all,

I am new to this site and new to nursing - hopefully! I am applying to the LPN program at GL Tech evening division. Is anyone else here going or has gone to that program? I am taking the NET in June (the last test date) and I just ordered study materials. I have to pass it because it is the last time they offer it!!! I am 40yrs old and completely changing my career so I am hoping I am not the oldest in the program if I get in. So send out a hello if you are going to the program at Lowell Tech.

Thanks

Susan

WOW you guys - the year flew by!!!!! I feel like I am never gonna start!! DOes the evening program follow the high school schedule too?

keke - glad to hear from you! meant2be - thanks for all the info - I appreciate it. Anyone else out there going to Lowell in August?

Have you gotten any feedback jobwise from the teachers or hospitals regarding this economy?

Good luck on these last few months and try and RELAX on your vaca!!!!!

Hello All,

I am signed up to take the NET test May 1st (last test) I took the TEAS test for Monty Tech, in Fitchburg, MA and passed. Monty Tech is very close for me but it only offers night classes and I'm thinking I would prefer days, so trying for Lowell as well. Hoping to start in Aug at one of the schools. I am finishing the application process for MT, 3 reference letters, my essay on why I want to be a nurse (when I grow up..haha) oh by the way....I am 54!!!!! So, I have all you young 40 yr olds beat for being the oldest....don't you all feel young now? I am a bit worried about being able to absorb and retain all this info in such a short time period. I do have a lot of years of medical background but still.....

I was wondering how different the night program is from the day, read the great info on how day program pretty much keeps you busy M-F with test seeming to be Thru-Fri, so wknds need to be used to study hard. What is it like for night program since you have class/clinical every other wknd?

I have read almost all 35 pages of these posts, you have all given wonderful information that is greatly appreciated. Good luck to all and will enjoy reading the outcomes from all.

Welcome Zeldalee!! :)I will be attending Greater Lowell Tech during the day. I'm sure you will get into one of the programs. I also hope that the posts have been helpful for you as well. They have definitely helped me. Keep us updated on what happens. And as far as I'm concerned its never to late to go back to school. :D

That's awesome Zelda! Looking forward to seeing you in the fall! :)

As for the evening program I don't know much about it but I can tell you why I chose days. It gets out around 2, which gives me most of the evenings to study as well and naturally I'll be awake and alert. But evenings gets out late which I feel like I won't be paying as much attention because I'm tired, and then if I wake up late during the day I'll lose that studying time. And also the every other weekends means I'm losing out on that weekend time.

Sooo if you can do the day program it's probably more to your benefit imho :) Good luck!

Yes, First Day, my thoughts as well.....being more alert during the day, and not interfering with the sleep schedule as I know that you can't hop right into bed when getting home...no matter what time of night....I can't anyway. Even though we won't be in school on the wknd, I know a lot of it will be devoted to studying. I will update after test date....hopefully with a YEAH! but then still have to get through the interview, hoping to get admitted and not wait listed...being in that limbo would be really tough. Well, won't worry, what will be, will be.

My thoughts exactly! And I'm the same way

Zelda....good luck on the NET - but if you passed the TEAS then you will do great on the NET - there is no science on the NET - just math & reading and an essay.

I feel the exact opposite of you daytime people - I am totally not a morning person and I never go to sleep before midnite. I chose the nite program because I live 45 min away (without traffic) and if I were to do the day program I would have to get up at 5 to make it there on time (128s & rt 3n are not very pretty in the am). I figure this way I can study during the am & afternoon and then leave by 2:45ish. It does suck to have to go every other weekend but at least there wont be much traffic on the weekends.

I cant wait to get more info and finally start the program!!!!

Hi Sawyer,

Wish I could be so confident, math is my worst subject. JUST passed the math on the TEAS and will have to continue to study it all summer to get up to speed for classroom math. I do admit it is coming back, but slowly, wish I had decided on pursuing this sooner so I would have had more time to study.

I hear ya about traffic, I wouldn't want to get up at 5am to be on time either. I will either be taking 495 North or the back roads, hoping neither will be a nightmare. I just so want it to be over, and then the wait for finding out if you passed will be a killer, was told it takes about 3 wks...UGH!

What is the interview process like? Is it real formal? Do you get all dressed up, if it is close to after work hours, (I wear a uniform often, or casual slacks/top) would I want to get changed, as in, dress up?

Thanks for your encouraging words. I bet you are anxious but before you know it Aug will be here and you will be saying....I wish I had done this or that before classes had started, I have no time for anything!

Zelda....did you buy the NET study guide? If you did then the math is just like in the book. Mostly it was fractions & decimals and just a couple of algebraic equations. I had my 14 yr old cousin help me since I couldnt remember how to convert fractions. The reading section was tricky because of the lack of time that you got to read the passages and answer the questions. Also, I think you will get your results in about a week or so - at least thats how quickly we got them.

The interview isnt really an interview - basically he goes over the WHOLE program - schedule, financial, grades etc. He might read your letter of intent right in front of you (SCARY!) and ask questions about your previous experience. Its pretty informal - I wore just pants and a shirt - not a suit or anything fancy - I would go with business casual.

Also, unless you are dead set on the daytime classes - tell him you are open for both the day and evening - it might make your chances better. Do you have any previous healthcare experience?

Good luck and post after the test to let us know how it goes!!!!

Hey Zelda just writing to see how things are going with you and if you found out anything yet! Im dying to know as I'm sure everyone else is

Well, I didn't pass for Lowell. Didn't think I would.

Passed for Fitchburg and had my interview last week, awaiting my yeah or nay letter. The testing was so different at each school, who would have thought, both challenging, in different areas.

Lowell has sooooo many more postings than Fitchburg, not sure why.

Good luck to you all,

Zeldalee
