Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Have an intro and summary to write (with 213 word count left), and editing the paper. I don't think I've ever had that many words left over before starting the final stretch....some of my pretty thoughts shall remain in this paper me thinks, yay!!! First time ever, the papers may be getting easier, that or it's the 2000 word count! I love words! :specs: :writing: :geek:

In my first class I actually had a CLC member calling me on the phone panicked because she only had ~500 words and I think it was 1200-1500 word count, all I could think was are you crazy, I'm bleeding from all the cutting I'm doing (700+ words over the limit!) LOLOLOL

That was so me! I was always over and staying in the word count impossible.

Ah, but remember, this was the class that did not have assignments in week 1 and 3, so in those weeks I did week 5. Well actually week 1 I did the assignment for week 2, and week 2 and 3 I did the first two parts of week 5, and then I had an awesome CLC, that took less than a day to put into PPT and edit so the rest of that week (4) I started on the last part of week 5's assignment. Clear as mud, right!!! lol

Actually I try and get into the new class and get a start on week one that Friday, my goal is to always have the assignment in on Friday. I used to work well under pressure, now I find I can't handle the stress. Now I'm the opposite and function so much better with a plan. I do spend most of my time reading, couple days writing. I got a mini for Christmas and have Pageburst loaded on it so I take it with me everywhere so that I can read and highlight. I also read through all the DQ's at the beginning of the term so that when I see the answers I highlight them...I spend way to much time doing all of that. But like you, I want to learn the stuff!

BTW I am so hung up on APA tonight I quit. I have a tutor session Friday and maybe he can straighten out my headings and subheadings. Unless someone here has the answer, and can make it stick in my thick skull. I've been taught 2 other times, I'm not getting it! :arghh: :banghead: :sniff:

Friday was always my turn in days too. I would be in a near panic if things were not turned by Saturday afternoon. Pandora had to talk me down from the ledge a few times.:roflmao:

Headings: Have you looked at Owl Purdue, sample papers?

Is your instructor marking you down for your headings?

Level One heading is the centered heading. It announces what you will be talking about and is bolded. OK, it does not come with an arrow, but AN wants to make it flush to the left, when I submit. So..I pushed it over, lol.

Red Delicious

LEVEL 2 are flushed to the left and are a subset of the level 1. It is capitalized as shown and one types the information underneath. This heading needs to be at least one paragraph long.

Golden Delicious

Now we talk about golden delicious apples and try to make it one paragraph, the same as the previous one. It too bolded and flushed to the left. My guess is, this is probably all you will need.

i was great with this until SH showed an example of a subheading indented with a period.

This is a Bolded Subheading. Then start your info here after the period after a subheading.

I think owl considers it a level 3.

I have been lost since but come Friday that's it the brain will do it!

My husband totally talked me down one Sunday afternoon. I was a raving lunatic. I was sob it was bad. Now he makes sure I'm done too.

The Organizational Values PPT in the Leadership class. I didn't tell her I was having surgery, didn't want that to be an excuse or anything, ya know? I'm even home with a picc line and TPN, 18 hrs a day for the next week*sigh* this did not go as planned.

Oh my goodness. I hope you heal quickly. I am so sorry about the problems.

Gosh peeps, you all are wonderful and a riot!! So glad to be here. Have I mentioned just how happy I am to be here....LOL :roflmao:

I have also found myself doing better under pressure but I have a feeling that those days are over. I like a little leeway and breathing is better controlled. We are all so much alike, it's crazy. :clown:

Got another fav to ask of you all. Does anyone know the name of the Statistics book? I wanna get a crack at it before my class starts on the 21.

Mucho Amor to y'all... :inlove:

Yeah, that is a level three, but I only used that once because the instructor told us too. It takes level 2 and breaks it down further. IMO, I only did through level 2 as did another person and we did fine with just those two levels.

Thank you...by the way the apple example totally made sense for me!!! :D

Do you run a spell check and grammar check with grammarly? Do you have the program on your laptop as an add-on?

Yes I run spell check and grammar check with gram marly, and I don't have it on my laptop yet because I can't figure out how to make it work on MAC.

I should read the rest of the comments before responding, but...

If this helps...I leave my intro and summary till the end. I usually block out my paper headings/subheadings based on the rubric. Fill those in, and then do the intro based on the overall rubric and what I actually covered. I cannot sum up the summary for the life of me, I just discuss most of the stuff in detail what has already been said, in my own words.

Also for reviews what has worked for me is to look at the full reports, find the overview/conclusion statements and go from there, helps to cut to the chase! Hth!

Thanks for the tips. I may try your method next time around.

I use both of those, and Write Check, I know it is an extra expense but I find it catches errors that Grammarly does not...cuz ya just can't ever be too sure,

OHHHH Write Check?!?! How much is that program and do you like it?

I was wondering the same thing, what has been your experience with this? I looked at their website and it appears it's the same company as TII, so do you find your similarity scores are spot-on with TII when you submit your final assignment? I've been bombed a couple times lately with Grammarly, the similarity score will say something like 5% and then I do the official TII and it's 18%! I've noticed on the official breakdown in TII that it catches similarities from both the web (the actual articles I cited) as well as other university's student papers, whereas Gram is only catching things from the web.

If it's similar in cost and useful in that it points out things that Gram doesn't, I may switch. Give us the poop :sneaky:

Write Check....it is right on, may actually come back 2-4% higher than TII. Catches errors that Grammerly does not catch. You can turn it in for one credit 3x, unless your paper is so different from the initial turned in product. When I first started I was freaked out about losing that many points if my scores were too high. I have never been close to 20%, but I still use it with anything that goes to TII. I think it is worth the 6 bucks a paper. I just rack it up to the price of school, I have used it 9 times (my very first paper was such a bomb that when I turned it back in it was so different that I had to use another credit, trust me my first paper was laughable, the tutor nearly cried, said she would help me but it was going to take more than one session! I was trainable and only missed 2.5 points). It is also good about catching who/whom's and that/which's for me, and articles errors. Hth...
