Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
So, I think I turned in a subpar powerpoint this week. This whole week has sucked! Had some complications from surgery, landing me in the hospital till Thursday. Had to do my first DQ half drugged from the hospitalAh well, one more week of this junk then on to the next class.
Hope you are on the mend Sunshine!
I don't think any of us like writing papers, but it's a necessary evil. I can pretty much bet though your writing will improve and it will become easier.I hate to say this..but I sort of miss it....I have a few papers and power points that I'm proud of. :)
I totally liked this comment before my befuddled brain realized what you actually said!!! Although I do know what you mean about some of the work, my Elephant Man PPT I love, well except I got long winded on the intro to the movie presenter notes, lol!
Sometimes the 2 week maximum to take off between classes is not enough. I am starting my 3rd class today Health Assessment and I have no choice but to push on. In the last month, laid off from work, landlords want to sell our home (their house) so we are moving, my 11 yr old son just got diagnosed with IBD or Colitis, and I got sick last Friday. Hey on the upside, I am starting to feel better. I am ready for 2015 to be here and put this way too busy year behind me. So my Health assessment instructor has made it clear in every announcement post I could find that she is big on APA references.. I get it.. She is already stressing me out.
Oh wow, that is a lot to be dealing with! I hope life settles down, fast!
Have an intro and summary to write (with 213 word count left), and editing the paper. I don't think I've ever had that many words left over before starting the final stretch....some of my pretty thoughts shall remain in this paper me thinks, yay!!! First time ever, the papers may be getting easier, that or it's the 2000 word count! I love words!
In my first class I actually had a CLC member calling me on the phone panicked because she only had ~500 words and I think it was 1200-1500 word count, all I could think was are you crazy, I'm bleeding from all the cutting I'm doing (700+ words over the limit!) LOLOLOL

As I was reading your comments I was all, "Yeah! LOL! That's me! So true! How funny!" and then..... I realized... that you wrote this on a Monday night. Which means, you're nearly done with a paper that isn't due for another 6 days. How do you do that? On Mondays I'm still in my postictal state from finishing up and submitting the previous assignment from the night before?! I'm starting my 2nd half of the program on Monday, I need a more efficient routine.
:dzed:
Prism, I usually work up until the Sunday deadlines as well, and end up taking a breather on Mondays. I tend to work better under pressure though, so I see more efficient productivity from myself when I do it that way. Although it has backfired a couple times and I have had to email myself the assignment and then find a computer at work with Word so I can work on it during my breaks. Then submit it around 11:30 pm Sunday night. That part is not fun.
Hi all! I am starting my final capstone class next week, the class I am in now is an elective and I have had a horrible experience with the teacher. All of my other instructors I have had were great no complaints. With this class I really don't want a bad professor per say...I was given 2 instructors from previous students but neither are available. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good capstone teacher I could ask for?

Rainyn and Prism,
Since I am only in the 3rd class, I tried to get into the groove of having DQ's done by Monday, both of them.. BUT found I too work better under pressure and have ended up getting things done on the due dates. I don't think my grades have suffered either.

Ah, but remember, this was the class that did not have assignments in week 1 and 3, so in those weeks I did week 5. Well actually week 1 I did the assignment for week 2, and week 2 and 3 I did the first two parts of week 5, and then I had an awesome CLC, that took less than a day to put into PPT and edit so the rest of that week (4) I started on the last part of week 5's assignment. Clear as mud, right!!! lol
Actually I try and get into the new class and get a start on week one that Friday, my goal is to always have the assignment in on Friday. I used to work well under pressure, now I find I can't handle the stress. Now I'm the opposite and function so much better with a plan. I do spend most of my time reading, couple days writing. I got a mini for Christmas and have Pageburst loaded on it so I take it with me everywhere so that I can read and highlight. I also read through all the DQ's at the beginning of the term so that when I see the answers I highlight them...I spend way to much time doing all of that. But like you, I want to learn the stuff!
BTW I am so hung up on APA tonight I quit. I have a tutor session Friday and maybe he can straighten out my headings and subheadings. Unless someone here has the answer, and can make it stick in my thick skull. I've been taught 2 other times, I'm not getting it!
I will definitely have to look into PERRLA and Grammarly! Sounds like they help a lot!

I use both of those, and Write Check, I know it is an extra expense but I find it catches errors that Grammarly does not...cuz ya just can't ever be too sure,

I should read the rest of the comments before responding, but...
If this helps...I leave my intro and summary till the end. I usually block out my paper headings/subheadings based on the rubric. Fill those in, and then do the intro based on the overall rubric and what I actually covered. I cannot sum up the summary for the life of me, I just discuss most of the stuff in detail what has already been said, in my own words.
Also for reviews what has worked for me is to look at the full reports, find the overview/conclusion statements and go from there, helps to cut to the chase! Hth!
