Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Oooh, that class. Two power points if I'm not mistaken, and those movies...yikes! I think most were tear jerkers. I did watch mine with a bowl of popcorn,
Yeah, that is the plan. I'm going to call my adviser on Monday to find if I can do this and get into the same class as my friend.
Make sure you have the same class number as your friends. Those are the three digits behind the class name in the list. Some instructors teach more than one class, so just mentioning the instructor might not get you into the same one.
BTW, you can also request being in the came CLC. That worked out very well for Pandora and me, because we could depend on each other to get the work completed.
Hey, sorry to jump into the conversation here! I started a thread about the GCU RN-BSN program earlier but am thinking I may get more advice by posting in this thread. I am almost 100% sure I'll start GCU. I got accepted to an instate RN-BSN program but would need to take chem and there is a 135 hour clinical.... even with $245 credits, I don't think I will be able to make it work.....
So onto GCU- I get 10% off though my employer and i'll likely get FA. Any suggestions on how else to save money attending GCU. Any scholarships available for out of state students or nurses/work force shortage?
I don't need stat, so any suggestion on a class through GCU that is simple and can be doubled up with another course?
What courses should be taken alone, and which can be paired up?
Instructor suggestions?
Thank you so much for any help! Also, please feel free to PM me.
Oh, as mentioned before, there are many instructors that are very good. What you need to do is get on the forum before it opens. First day is Friday with classes starting on Monday. Read the announcements and see if the instructor is a good fit for you. If not, post nothing on Monday, call your advisor and get switched.

Keep in mind that the cost total your admission adviser at GCU gives is you includes your books and fees. The only thing you pay extra is the graduation fee. I found that with state colleges and universities there are usually a lot of fees and extra costs that add up.

Thx! I will make sure i give him the class specific number. After reading through many of your previous posts, I totally plan on asking each instructor to be in the same CLC with my friend :)
I am taking community health and there is an assignment on week 2, and then the CLC week 4 (which is a two part), and week 5 has an assignment that is a 3 part. This is a class that could be doubled up on!
Ask in your individual forums to be placed in the same CLC, back a bit a group did on the main forum and it did not come across as though the teacher liked that. PM coming your way rainyn and drea588. :)

They were....I did The Elephant Man, and became obsessed with the real guy! LOL Seriously though, psychologically deep!

Anybody want to buy a Steel Magnolias DVD cheap?? LOL
Thank you all for the advice. So then I am automatically enrolled in whatever course comes next and the only way to get around some not so great instructors is to ask to be switched? There is no way to enroll under an instructor?

Good advice WW28 Everyone should know though that getting into the same CLC is not a guarantee, it's completely up to the instructor. I think tokmom & Pandora lucked out, because the two times I tried I was told no. My first attempt was with my work buddy that I started the program with (she later dropped out), and the Instr reply was this: "I am sorry I do allow members to pick their group members. It is done completely at random." The 2nd attempt was Community Health, and I noticed from the bio's that there were 4 of us from the same area (though we did not know each other) so sent the Instr a private msg asking for us 4 to be in the same CLC. Makes sense, right? It's about a specific community, and we all lived here, logical, no? Um, no. We ended up with 2 ppl from this area and 3 from out of state trying to Google things about this place and consequently what they turned in to me (the ppt putter-together-er/editor) was JUNK and did not accurately represent this city at all. I mean, our biggest health issue is NOT IV drug abuse!?
, it's a retirement community!
I don't even know where she got such a ridiculous statistic (the references were as big a joke as the content so couldn't look it up).
Long-winded explanation as to why you shouldn't count on it, because it didn't happen for me. I hope you guys get your buddies though!!
(p.s. perhaps that's a secret tip to also not pick the place where you live to do the assignment on... you end up correcting everyone else's internet-obtained misinterpretations and basically doing the whole thing yourself)

Yes, my next one is community health. Thanks for the info, and the tip to work ahead on the movie character powerpoint! I'm one that really waits until the last minute to complete assignments, it's the ADD in me. I seem to focus and work better under pressure, but I'm going to make an effort and get going on that powerpoint.
