Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Isn't it information overload?!So what will your PICO be with bedside report. Let us know what you find out. I think it would be an interesting topic. You really need to be organized to not go crazy in this class.
You are not kidding! It's an overwhelming amount of info., So far my PICO is about whether bedside report is better for safety, communication, continuity of care as compared to nurse to nurse report away from patient and family. So far I have been finding plenty of articles which I'm still examining. I can see why this instructor has a pledge with a list of stuff, like " I promise not to run away screaming"; She is very reassuring and seems to be honestly interested in helping and making sure people don't panic.
I know! It was ackward to see it being the wrong movie, knowing she spent a lot of time on it. She had to redo and resubmit. I would have jumped off the deep end.
I know, that's just awful. My response should have been more compassionate, but I couldn't help but fall over laughing because that is exactly the sort of thing I would do. I read assignments over and over, backwards, upside down, again and again (and then recheck one more time to see if anything changed since the last 42 times I looked at it) until there's the entirely real possibility that what ended up in my brain no longer even slightly resembles what the instructor intended.
I so loved that ppt... I think I wasted days in the "effects" tabs just playing around with all the fun things it could do. I opted against music (although the title soundtrack score would've been awesome), but I did manage to squeeze in the animated/moving theater curtains that slowly pull back on the title page with a big crescendo ending as the title words float in out of nowhere. I have no idea if anyone even saw that (doubt it), but it was fun to do!
"DRANK YER JOUICE SHEEELLBBAAYYY ! ! !" Ahh, the memories!
Hey everyone! I finished up professional dynamics and earned myself an A! I started Family Centered Health Promotion today and looks like it should be okay as well. I am looking forward 5 weeks at HEALTH ASSESSMENT...please send me recommendations of teachers for health assessment or even who to avoid if you havent already PM'd me! Thanks in advance!!!

I'm sure she is laughing now, but I doubt it then:roflmao:. You will have to show your ppt with the curtain and all. I love designing ppt's with pictures and 3D, etc..It becomes addicting. I always like to add vintage nursing pictures. It was like my trademark, LOL!. I remember in one CLC, I came home from work to find that the other two overbearing members changed my pictures of RBC's. I guess their blob of blood looked cooler than mine. Thankfully, Pandora and I had license to final edit and my RBC's went back on the slides .
Ugh..that movie. The graphics were soo old! It looked faded and grainy. I sat in my room watching it on the laptop with popcorn nearby. Like you, I took a lot of notes. Now that I have nothing to do, I should go back and watch the movies on the list.

Isn't she cool? She does like very good APA and will ding you a few points for errors, but it isn't extreme. I loved her pledge too. It always made me laugh. I think some people took advantage of her good nature though, because in the third week, she put out an APB for missing work. Considering there are 2-3 papers due each week, I can't believe people had stuff overdue.
Am currently a student in the RN/BSN program at GCU starting the intro to nursing research class. Would love to network with others in this program!
I'm still skerred of capstone!!!
I'm also not looking forward to next week. I'm having surgery on the 7th, so will have to do stuff while recovering. Fun!

Hi Zelda,
Welcome to one of the GCU threads. You will find lots of advice and support here. If you are in research you are almost done!

It really isn't that skerry, . You just have to be organized. I too was terrified. Once I was done with stats, I focused my anxiety on the capstone, lol. The key is getting those research articles a head of time, as well as your PICO. Read the articles, make notes on them (if you print them out). Save the references so you can go back and use them as you write the other papers.
The large paper is written in blocks. You do a bit of paper each week. I think the most difficult part is to not duplicate what you say, because in the end all the papers are put together. In a perfect world, they would fit like a puzzle with all the pieces lined up nicely. However, you do have to cull out some repetitive information so the paper flows better. It IS busy, because you have three assignments due at one time. The lit review is probably the most time intensive assignment, IMO
Good luck with the surgery! ((hugs))
I started to relax reading....and then thought of capstone, and I still have to do stats next! Ackkkkk........My brain is fried tonight after doing the community presentation stuff today, I present tomorrow at a community fair, just shoot me now! It's on smoking cessation.

Overall, I like the power points too, but that one was not my best I did in the course of the program. My brand new lap top crashed during that class, and I originally lost everything. Thanks to Best Buy who charged me up the ying yang to get it all back, I was able to retrieve my power point, but I was behind. But I was able to get it turned in on time and redo an assessment that was lost. I think my husband would have paid any amount of money to keep me sane, because it was not pretty when it crashed
