Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Thanks for the response, that makes sense..I just had read somewhere on this thread that someone could test out of a couple of classes...SO you did not end up going to GCU? Any specific reason why you chose not to attend GCU?
WOw, I keep trying to respond to someone's thread and it keeps placing it at the end of the message board!! Why is that ??
I can test out of 2---at 0430 am, my brain is not awake yet, but they are 2 non-nursing classes, plus I did not have to take 2 of the nursing classes, ethics was 1, and can't recall the other.

Oh I'm here, just finished my 6th class (Intro to Nursing Research), and am on a mini-break until Ethics starts 5/26. It's tough but I'm glad I chose GCU
@taurus099 are you starting the RN-BSN program at Grand Canyon University in June? I start my first class May 26th...
Huh, i only had to do 11 classes. I didn't have to do patho because I'd taken it previously at my CC.
Tough or just time consuming ? You think it's feasible to work 3 12's and do this program ? I am single and do not have any kids

Its more time consuming. I am at the tail end of my first class and there is a lot of reading, paper writing but I think that it something that you get used to. honestly don't think I will enjoy that part of it. On the positive side, there are NO TESTS. I am a horrible test taker anyways. I am not a quick paper writer so it takes me awhile to start the writing. If someone could write my opening statement, I could write in no time.... lol This program is very doable.
oh and Taurus, I work 3 12 hr shifts as well and have 5 kids....(2 are adults but they can be needy too)

You can do it. It does take time but the instructors want you to suceed. My first teacher was awesome and that came across loud and clear. I am wishing for a paper. This term is all assessments. I stink at care plans. But there is not much time left. There never is the 5 weeks fly.

To my knowledge there aren't any specific classes you can test out of, your personal program depends on what class credits were accepted from previous school and what you still need. But (I'm pretty sure) you still need a total of 12. I believe when I was considering GCU I read that it's required that you have 36 total credits obtained at GCU. So, it's 12 classes (@ 3 cr each), but that 12 may vary between students. Like if you don't need to take Stats, you still need '12', so you'd pick up a different class to fill that void. Perhaps it would be one of those other (non-core) classes that you could test out of. If you're doing the core-12 as most of us are, you just gotta do `em
