Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

I sent you a PM but maybe you cannot respond back in a PM. I will watch the board to see if you respond. Thanks
I think it has. It seems like there are so many forms that we have to have filled out before we can start everything that it makes it a little confusing. I don't understand why they just can't put it all in one place and have a packet of forms for us to fill out. I have posted in the forum with a HUGE list of questions. Makes me feel a little stupid and I promise I'm not. I just don't want to be wrong on what counts as hours or miss a form and then fail the whole class. I would like to keep my GPA where it is :)

I am not able to reply since I have not posted enough. The way I understand it is your mentor has to have a BSN and shouldn't be your direct supervisor. My mentor is someone I work with but we have the same management position. She has been approved by my professor. It doesn't have to be someone you work with though. Your clinical site does have to have an agreement. I would call the Office of Field Experience asap to discuss that with them. As far as the articles go, they have to be evidence-based peer reviewed articles. You pick a problem specific to nursing to write your paper over. A friend of mine wrote hers over the nursing shortage. You need 15 articles so it is best to pick your topic and start gathering info early. They actually have the capstone papers published in the library so you can get an idea of what they are looking for. Hope this helps a little. I still feel a little lost in the class but it is only week two so hopefully I will feel better at the end of the week.
I am in my nursing research class at GCU and wondering if I can get any of your suggestions for my PICO question. I work in PACU and am trying to change my PICOT question to be more of a nursing problem for my topic of emergence delirium. P=pediatric PACU patients, I= Adjunct medication given with general anesthesia in the operating room. C= Patient's only receiving general anesthesia. O= Less emergence delirium as measured by the PACU nurse using the pediatric anesthesia emergence delirium score.
Thanks!
Hey guys,
I'm super nervous! I start the class on Monday. What did you guys choose for your research? I'm thinking sepsis identification, but not 100% yet. Any tips surviving the class?

Are u in the new 10 week class?? Just google Nurse PICOT statements and u will find a ton to give u some ideas. I actually found it 1 of the easiest classes as I was writing on a subject that I actually enjoyed. To make things easier on ur self....Once u have ur PICOT statement..start tracking down ur 15 articles..8 have to be research.....or maybe that has changed with the new 10 week class. Best of luck
Just wondering how the new Capstone 10 week version is going? Has it gotten more clear? Is it still pretty much the same as before, but just have a longer time to complete it. Your project is anything nursing related is that correct?
Thanks.
Hi Howlee. I am just about to finish Spirituality and Ethics. On break right now then one week left after the first of the year. Our class has been pretty straight forward as far as the assignment expectations. No extra work added on. This class is a combined class from the previous program - I am in the newer program and have my capstone set to start in April.
I too took the Spirituality the same time as you it looks like. It was pretty rough, but did get through it. He was a tough instructor, really have to pull your weight with him. I am also starting my capstone in April. A bit overwhelmed with what is expected, it sounds like a lot.
by the sounds of it....Capstone is the exact same class as before, but now u have an extra 5 weeks to do it.....
Hi NayNae. Yep, Spirituality was challenging - surprisingly I think that I have gotten the most out of that class than many of the others. Just finishing up Pathophysiology now - in the 5th week, man this has been a writing heavy class. The DQs for this class are LONG. I have Trends in healthcare next and then . . . . . . . Capstone!! I'll be glad to be done. As Flames mentioned, it sounds like the new Capstone has the same requirements, we just have 10 weeks to do it in. I think I would have preferred the 5 week class.
Does anyone have a list of recommended instructors? I am on week 4 of community health which is my 4th class and needless to say I have had a not so good professor who was never around. Dreading week 5!!! Next class is statistics and I have heard there are good and bad instructors for this class? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! This thread has helped me a lot!

Lot different,lol.....At the end we had to have a peer look it over and sign off on it....but that was it...they didnt have to jot down any feedback on the paper..just sign it......Your probably 1 of the first classes to do the do Capstone...so I'm sure even the profs have questions.....as do al the students.....just that many are too afraid to ask...so ask away......
