Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Hi Flames. As you have mentioned before, the DQs are not generally difficult. It does get a bit monotonous as it seems like we all regurgitate the same information. I wish they would mix up the DQs and the assignments some. You can google them and find responses from 2013 to the same DQs and assignments!. I don't plagiarize from them, but when you get stuck it has helped me with a direction. This program has been time consuming, and challenging, but it is very doable. I am happy that I choose GCU. I just have spring fever and so want to be done :)

Ya the DQs could be done better....I found it was the same old stuff regarding the replies...people just agreeing with the poster...lol I say just do away with the DQs..and find something to replace it....now that I'm done th eprogram..I say add another paper to write, lol

I'm in the 10 week capstone now. So far it's going pretty well. Can't wait until it's over!

How is the capstone course going? I just started on Monday. I am a bit overwhelmed. any advice?

From what I understand, nothing has really changed with capstone..same "stuff" just spread over 10 weeks.....If one is prepared they have their PICOT rdy to go and 15 articles...... Its now Saturday, so my advice is pretty much useless, lol my advice:

1) Have ones PICOT rdy to go before the class starts......Google PICOT and understand what it truly means and keep in mind it has to be nurse related

2) come up with Articles.....you need at least 15.....8 have to be research......15 is the MINIMUM.....have more at the ready!! Do NOT be afraid to ask the librarians for help....that is what they are there for!!!

3) Back to PICOT......Can 1 find a lot of info on ur subject? Or are u making life terribly difficult on urself?? Keeping in mind that for the most part articles have to be published within the past 5 yrs

4)Ask about word limits. many profs do not care, but some do......

Many get scared about capstone...it is a lot of work......BUT if it is on a topic you like, it can actually be the easiest class of the whole program! Maybe "easiest" is not the best word to use, but the 1 long paper you will actually enjoy writing. I'm guessing most are in the 40-50 page range, so yes a lot of work.....but with the right topic.....enjoyable work. You got this

I am coming to end of week 8. We do have 2 discussion boards every week. There are three weeks of just doing DB and no papers! At the beginning it was overwhelming, but it really isn't too bad! Good luck!

Sorry just seen this! Just don't get anxious. I've been taking it one week at a time. They want us to pass. When writing your papers, just make sure you look at the rubric to make sure you have included everything. I'm finishing week 8, so my big paper is due next week! Good luck!

My third class is about to end next week and it's all moving along quickly. Hear a lot of APA and Rubric references directed at entire class from instructors, but I am all in at this point.

Flames.... could I possible have a copy of the list sent to me as well. Trying to prepare for what appears to be a fun statistic class in my very near future.

Thank you in advance!

Well I'm finished (with a 4.0, yaaaaa!) Do we really have to pay $150 to graduate? Ugh. Anyway, I think I was one of the last 5 week capstone people. They changed it some, and the instructors don't seem aware of the changes they made. They gave us a ridiculously low word count that would have resulted in a 6 page paper even though it was 30% of our class grade. The instructor finally just told us we could go over the word count if we needed to. They also seemed to have changed the format some, so the example papers no longer fit in as well. However, I just followed the rubric and everything was fine.

It does help immensely to have the right topic. I saved research methods till the last class right before Capstone, so I would have plenty of time to decide before then what I wanted my topic to be on. It was still a bit too broad in the research class, but I had narrowed it down enough that when capstone came around, I was on a role. Keep in mind that capstone articles should for the most part be from the last 5 years, and look up your topic using those search parameters in the date field. That tells you if enough research is still being done on the topic to make it a viable one.

Good luck everyone! And don't worry too much about "the list"; I had one of the teachers on the list, she did grade a little bit harder, but if you're a decent writer, you will be fine.

Always look at the educational background of your instructor, that will give you an idea of what quality of writing they expect.

I just started introduction to research NUR 433. Pls can you PM me a list of instructors to avoid?

congrats!! Yes they want even more $$$$ out of ya. I deleted that prof list..as I really don't know how accurate it was....how many people contributed to it? Lets face it, some people are terrible writers and when a Prof grades them accordingly, they label them a bad prof! I'm fortunate my wife is a terrific proof reader, lol. In 1 of my "anything" classes we had to "grade" a fellow students paper....and all papers were posted on the forum..... looking over the papers was quite the eye opening experience, to put it nicely, some papers were just terrible. This class had a mixture of medical field students. I did request a few profs, but I did not make that decision based on that list...makde it from fellow classmates that I remianed in contact with....and Istarted up a FB group and people would post info regarding profs. But the info on that group is outdated as everyone has graduated. I'm sure if u doa FB search, you will find GCU rn to bsn forums. The best prof I had during the whole program had a very scary intro, lol Very strict on plagarism, etc etc, but she was actually the nicest and most helpful prof of the whole program! Plus she had completed her BSN at GCU so was very aware of the slackers in the group projects! Follow the rubric and one will do well.

very good point on selecting a topic of Capstone..make sure you can find research material. And don't be afraid to ask the librarians for help finding matierial! I foun dit best to email them..as then they would email th einfo back to you!! lol

Hey, new here! I've read through the thread here and am still a little confused on the Capstone. I am in week 1 and we have to do an Individualized Success Plan and the instructions for the assignment are very unclear. The syllabus provided a resource that has a spreadsheet attached but from the directions given, it looks like I will need to write a lot more about the "goals" and plans on how I plan to complete each assignment/immersion hours. Can someone help me out with this assigment? I've done really well and want to continue my success but I fear this instructor isn't too informative.
