Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Know nothing about the new class....but if u look online u can find Tutors, not cheap, but may be better than failing......
HI everyone,
I will be starting the RN-BSN program in couple of weeks. There will be a group of 6 people taking the program together so we can help each other out. I was wondering if those who had taken the courses or finished the program already can PM the list of good professors? Also, do we ask the counselor to sign us up with the specific professor we want? I would appreciate your help very much. Thank you!
yes 1 or 2 weeks out from the start of the next course, you can request profs thru ur adviser....sometimes u are successful..sometimes not..... Tokmom was even successful in getting her friends in the same group projects....which is a HUGE bonus.....I asked once and was not as fortunate....but if u dont ask, the answer is already no,lol..just do that right at the beginning. GL
Hi hope. I am in the GCU program, gone through 8 classes, and have never seen a list of "good" professors. I follow the rubric for the assignments, answer the 2 discussion questions and 6 replies during the week and have been ok so far (hopefully I will not regret those words). Some of the professors have stated that if you have a request for a specific group they would try to accommodate that for the group projects. As flames said, it doesn't hurt to ask. A good group makes a big difference.
I am starting on Feb 13 for my BSN...first class is the Professional Dynamics class. This is my first online class ever. And it's true, a good group really does make a difference, but it requires a good leader as well.
I think u will find that in most cases..the group wants someone to stand up and take the lead..I highly recommend to save time and frustration, that you stand up and take the lead........ 1 would think that were all adults and care...but there always seems to be 1 that doesn't......they will be the last to check in..the last to say anything and the last to turn in their work.....and then it will be crap, or plagiarized, lol I was fairly fortunate and my groups were pretty decent...In 1 case 1 gal did nothing, but that worked to our advantage. You have to make a CLC contract for each group project..ensure u lay down the rules on the expectations and what happens if they do not meet the expectations. GL and follow the RUBRIC for all assignments....and yes in some cases (I know 1 class for sure) not all the required info was in the instructions...thus go by the rubric......GL
I have a question about the capstone. This is week one and I guess I am still a little confused about what actually counts as hours. I know that some of the assignments count. It looks like 10 hours per assignment. Where do the other hours come from?
Must be something new...don't recall anything having to do with "hours" When I took the Capstone class back in May 2015...
It is 100 practice immersion hours. Some of the assignments count I am just not sure what else counts. I was just curious what others may have used. It looks like the time spent researching my topic counts but not meeting with my mentor. I just wish it was a little more cut and dry on the instructions. I also have to participate in a scholarly activity. I participate in Q 3 month quality assurance and performance improvement meetings and wasn't sure if that would count for a scholarly activity. There isn't much opportunity where I live for some of the suggested scholarly activities.
Capstone has changed a lot.....hopefully ur instructor can be of help.....
I think it has. It seems like there are so many forms that we have to have filled out before we can start everything that it makes it a little confusing. I don't understand why they just can't put it all in one place and have a packet of forms for us to fill out. I have posted in the forum with a HUGE list of questions. Makes me feel a little stupid and I promise I'm not. I just don't want to be wrong on what counts as hours or miss a form and then fail the whole class. I would like to keep my GPA where it is :)

I have a friend a head of me that just took stats and dropped the class as she was failing. She said the book is new and all assignments are new. The school does not have a tutor for statistics. I even checked myself and that is correct, the school does not offer a tutor. I cannot find anyone that is willing to tutor in health care statistics. Has anyone taken this new stats class or know anything about it?
