Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Hi Howlee. I am just about to finish Spirituality and Ethics. On break right now then one week left after the first of the year. Our class has been pretty straight forward as far as the assignment expectations. No extra work added on. This class is a combined class from the previous program - I am in the newer program and have my capstone set to start in April.
i guess thats the beauty of 5 week classes...the end is near! I think the only class I had extra work was Patho, and the prof added an optional second DQ. Hang in there....
Hello everyone!
I'm new here. I am currently on "holiday break" and next week will be my 3rd week of Patho and will also be starting NRS-440VN TRENDS AND ISSUES IN TODAY'S HEALTH CARE next week then Capstone. I am feeling super anxious as it is almost time for Capstone. Any good tips or pointers??
Capstone: I guess my advice is based on the "old" capstone has a few people on here have mentioned it is changing to a 10 week class..not sure when hats changing.
Google PICOT if you don't know what it is......And once u know what you want to do..start finding the 15 articles you require....8 have to be research articles! if you do that prior to class starting, ur in great shape!
REfworks....free from the school library is great resource in organizing all those articles.....I think it makes citations as well..but I used PERRLA for that.
Don't be afraid to ask the librarians for help!!
When picking a topic..keep in mind research material....can u find current info? best of luck

You are very lucky to have had such a good instructor. I wish I knew a good instructor for my next class coming up, nursing research. I can't take another class like this one. The extra work added on forced me to a take day off work to try and keep up. I'm exhausted from this class.
My instructor for Nursing Research was ok. Again I just followed the rubric for the assignments and got a good grade. I believe we are not supposed to put instructor names on the forum, but her last name is the same as a popular brand of salt. Enjoy the last week of break!

4mranch,
Your all right!!!! Thanks. Sometimes I am ready to just walk away. I have had some good instructors but also some very bad ones. I think how good a class is all depends on the instructor and some just pile on extra busy work and grade very hard.
Hi Everyone,
Completed and finished the program in 16 months submitted my Capstone on December 18th 2016. I had to take 14 classes total. I found most of the instructors following the rubric exactly. Also every instructor has their own interpretation of APA. I used the template they provided and was fine. There were probably 5 classes that really challenged me , but thanks to Flames9 and Tokomom and a few others I was able to take their advice and push through the program. I doubled up one time because I took a 4 week break once. I put a lot of effort, time and energy and managed a 4.0 at graduation. Mostly because I wanted to gain something from the program. Like Flames said in earlier posts so many students do not put any effort or do not follow directions so they did not do as well. It all depends on what you want, I figured I was self pay and I work very hard for my money so I wanted to do well. The spirituality class was tough I thought and took me by surprise. The HLT 317 class was my worst class for the CLC project (which by the way is the worst part of the program). The instructor was a PH.D and he was very very strict. So now that it's over ,I have so much free time I don't know what to do LOL! It was a good program and I wished I had a buddy like Tokomom and Flames9 suggested it makes things easier to bounce things off another student. Anyway sorry for the long post just wanted to offer my opinion to those in the early stages don't give up some classes will be awesome and some you just have to push through good luck everyone!!! Just waiting for my diploma to arrive hopefully soon :)
Feels like it was not that long ago, you were crying and ready to fill out ur Burger King application..ok maybe was not that bad,lol Congrats...nice feeling to have it completed and a great accomplishment. I never thought in a zillion yrs I would have a bachelors degree My parents offered to pay for school or half for a car (not a new car...) I took the $$$..my 2 younger sisters took the school (they too are RNs with their BSN and other fancy credentials) I knew I was joining the Cdn military, so the car $$$ was a no brainer, lol
Yes it does take effort and time....Rubric is key as it is easy to forget key points! That actually happened to me in my 2nd "anything" class.....Super easy assignment, I had written the paper in record time.....got a bit too cocky and didn't double check the rubric against my paper to ensure I had all the points covered...of course the area I missed was worth a fair bit! Luckily she was a fair grader. And not all the required info is in the instructions....happened to a classmate I was in touch with....She forgot to use the rubric...
I think the diploma arrived about a month after my last class..of course u had to pay for it prior to that!! Congrats again....
Hi guys! Sorry to ask more PICO questions, and I'm still under the old program (start the research class/literature review next month),so the veterans can answer best....
someone mentioned getting hours signed off working on the PICO? Do you need to do a lot of work at the facility? I thought it was mostly research? I ask because I'm in Hawaii, not licensed here, and not working. I can probably volunteer on the military base (they will take any state's licensure), but I don't really have any connections. How much work do you need to do "on-site?"
ETA: I do want to work and get licensed here, but they have weird rules, and if I license before June, I'll have to pay $130 to license for 6 months, then $240 to license again in June. So obviously I'd like to just wait until June and pay the $240 then.
No hours to get signed off on the Capstone class as far as I recall....You had to get a RN to look over ur paper and "sign off" on it, but no actual working hours, all they have to do is look it over

I'm not sure when I will be doing my Capstone. I guess if I keep going it will be in August. I am struggling in the Spiritual class right now and can hardly keep up with all the extra work that was added on.
