Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
Do you happen to know what kind of proposal you have to pick? I'm not understanding that at all. I do not know how to get ready for this class. It has to be pretty bad if they have to give you a phone call to give you the heads up for a class. Or maybe its just me that got the phone call.
Not sure what you mean by proposal?? Probably contacting you via phone as it is a new thing. Look a fe wposts back and u see Lanoneus is in the same boat as u, but appears he/she has the option of staying with the 5 week class (as long as he/she finishes by a certain date)Do you happen to know what kind of proposal you have to pick? I guess we have to identify, design, and propose an evidence-based solution within ahealth care organization. I wish there would be some examples given. Everything is so unclear!
When do u start capstone? always sucks being the first few classes..sorryI guess we have to identify, design, and propose an evidence-based solution within ahealth care organization. I wish there would be some examples given. Everything is so unclear!
January 2016 the capstone for RN-BSN was 5 weeks long.
Just finishing up Nursing Research now - not a bad class, it did make me rethink my PICO for my Capstone. For those that have completed the program - how long was your Capstone class? I thought it was 5 weeks, but I just got a call from GCU about coordinating a preceptor for the Capstone class and they said the class was 10 weeks long.
Hop back to the Outback...lol Guess capstone is changing, maybe it will be for the better. Hope ur doing well Puddles!! I finally have a full time job....Occupational health working at 2 clinics...that is once my background check is complete...January 2016 the capstone for RN-BSN was 5 weeks long.

Flames - it is GREAT to see you! Awesome on the job! Sounds like a great gig!!
Fill you in on what all happened/is happening. Not sure if you remember, but we got transferred back to the states. Last day of capstone was Jan 31 (Feb 1 Aussie-time), They packed the house on Feb 2, loaded on Feb 3 and we flew back Feb 8. We moved back to Houston area, where we were from. I am full-time doing school and picked up a prn (2 days/month) to keep my skills up.
I applied to a Masters/Doctorate program - found out I was accepted 2 weeks before we left Aussieland. Started that in April. School is kickin' me orifice, but still doing well. GCU seems forever ago and it has been less than a year.
ps... yea, I thought APA was bad before... lordie the book is my bible now! LOL
Not sure why, but all of a sudden I got an update from this forum. Guess I needed to see my old friends Flames and Tok!
Just a note in Perrla...... I ended up using Perrla complete this year, I think it was $30 a year, and it's been awesome. It's like the regular Perrla program, but I've found it easier to use, and it's online, so you can log into a computer anywhere and work on your paper there. I hate change, but this was actually easy to learn and I find it better. Here's the website: (not an affiliated link or whatever, I'm not schilling, just sharing.) :)
That's weird, don't know why it did that. anyway, it's http://www.perrlacomplete . com
What did GCU tell you about the Capstone class? Do you have any understanding about the project (identify, design, and propose an evidence-based solution within a health care organization)?
Hi Howlee. I spoke with my adivsor and she said it is still the same type of Capstone project as previously, they extended the class to 10 weeks because they felt that it was too much to cram into a 5 week course. My understanding is that you will need your PICO question, your research articles, and a mentor. If your facility is approved (ie has an agreement with GCU) then I would choose someone from within your facility - not necessarily from within your department. It is more work setting up the mentor (they have to be approved, already have atleast a BSN, you will need to have them sign an agreement form and send in a CV - resume). It sounds more intimidating just because it is new. The mentor just has to be a resource person for you and sign off on your hours that you spend working on your project. I will be doing my Capstone in April - how about you?
We still had to have another RN sign off on our project, but you did that at the end. I guess it will be beneficial for many to extend it.....but I thought it was 1 of the more enjoyable classes and time wasn't really a factor....since it was enjoyable, I didnt find myself struggling to get motivated to work on it,lol.
