Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Flames9_RN, thank you so much for that youtube link. It has been a huge help. That teacher explains is so much better. It is still confusing, but I can muddle my way through. On week 2 so only 3 more weeks to go. Intro to Research is next. I just keep reminding myself to take one step at a time and not get too ahead of myself or I start stressing out a bit. Thanks again for the help.

To request a prof....just ask ur student advisor 1-2 weeks out from class start. There was a list floating around..not sure how accurate it was..as I had a prof on the "avoid list" and she was fine...she graded a bit tougher, but she was fine

Does anyone still have this list of to "avoid" or even the opposite? I'd be happy to have it! Thanks so much. If anyone out there has recommendations please send along a PM. Or I could contact you, either way I am grateful!

Pattychris6, tried to PM but it would not let me. To new I guess.

Hi Flames9_RN

So how does this happen I'm down to my last elective ,they sent me a list August 11 telling me which classes I can take so I pick one , the HLT 317 class you suggested, then they email today saying I can't take that class. So I send another email asking really WTH get your stuff together which is the right answer . Grrrrr

wow u got a list..my advisor was useless...she just told me to find a class, and then she would find out if it was acceptable! She did take the time to tell me she had a masters degree though....maybe a master of being useless, lol

I'm a little late to the forum, but since you've been through this already I wanted to ask, once you complete the capstone how long does it take for GCU acknowledge that you've completed the program? I submitted the capstone yesterday, it was graded this morning, and I've officially completed the program, but with communication not always being clear I wasn't sure if they would let me know, send an email, etc. when it's officially official. Long story short, I want to know when I can add the three letters after my name. :roflmao:

Not totally sure....I recall my "clueless" adviser stating something along the lines they do go and double check everything to make sure 1 has completed and met the requirements for the BSN..then they mail out the "Diploma" I think I got mine about a month after the last class....Pretty sure the effective date would be the day the last course was completed....congrats

Ok I'm in patho now with LS CAN YOU pm me about particulars , also she has a teaching assistant which I have not experienced before so who is grading? Should I ask ?

can anyone tell me how the classes are structured? i hear its 1 paper per week and 2 responses to peers (does this sound right?).... what about group projects and the final capstone class... is it like doing a EBP at work?

is the work hard at all? or just busy work?

how strict are they with APA format? im using a program called perlla... it helps format APA papers..
