Members are discussing the accreditation and acceptance of BSN and MSN degrees from GCU in different states, particularly focusing on the requirement of a preceptorship for BSN programs. There are concerns about certain states not accepting GCU BSN degrees, while others share experiences with the capstone course and offer tips for scholarly activities. Additionally, there is mention of GCU transitioning back to a non-profit status and the impact of this change on students.
Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.
Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.
Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.
The teacher had to get on my group members quite a few times to get them to do something and then she just said that she was going to give individual grades in which I ended up with an A not sure about any of the other members and I didn't care.
The only class I lost points in a CLC was the one that kwmom and I did with crazy woman. I think the teacher only marked us down because of the tension in the color forum!
I'm hoping this is true, but honestly I think they just say this to passify those of us that get all worked up. I've gone through those rubrics with a fine tooth comb and I can't see where any of those dot-sections would allow for a markdown for participation or teamwork (to be able to give the slacker their own graded-lower rubric). As far as I know, the instructors are required to utilize the standard grading system of the university (aka rubric) and cannot go rogue and make up their own criteria for a grade. If the project itself was A-worthy (because Winter, kwmom, rob, Flames, tokmom, me, etc. all did them ourselves), and the rubric is set up to grade project content alone, how could they mark down an individual student? They'd have to have a secondary grading tool, otherwise they'd be setting themselves up for a student appeal. And, ain't nobody got time for that. I just don't believe it's true. It's kind of like when you have a slacker at work - you complain to the manager, she says she's doing something about it (and that you're not privvy to that because it's now at "management level"), yet the coworker keeps on keepin' on and you never see a change in their work or behavior. I think the manager just says they're doing something about it to shut me up. What am I gonna say, "I don't believe you, show me the write-up or corrective action plan for Susie"? Never gonna happen, and eventually I do shut up. And watch them continue to be a loser while I continue to do their work. for. years. Good grief, this is a disease.
(Winter, what "dot" did your instructor mark down that she considered teamwork that then lowered the team's overall grade? Since there's no section/dot for that, is that even fair?)
For the most part my CLC groups have not been that bad....yes still had slackers..but for the most part my slackers were not as bad as most of your slackers, lol And in thew 1 time where the girl did 0%, was to my and the groups benefit, lol There should be a part on the Rubric for team work, but that could be tough to score in some instances.....but in others very easy, lol Thus the importance of keeping all communication in the colour forum! Oh well, it is what it is...I will make note of it in the final review of the program! Capstone paper done, need to fix a few sentences....9200 words, 39 pages, lol well if u take out the refs, only 33 pages!
I agree that they just say they graded everyone separately to get us to shut up. Have you noticed that the slackers, even the ones who do nothing, show up in your other classes? I am really disappointed that I work my butt off and these slackers are going to get the same degree as I do. I just finished community health and in the forum the first week the instructor kept asking people where are your references? After the first week she gave up and the majority of the the posts were "I agree with your post completely, blah blah blah....". Am I just one of the few with a 4.0? Do the rest of the people get Cs? How can you pass a class when you don't even come close to following the instructions? I think those of us who try should get a tuition discount or something lol!
I think I may have to take up your attitude!!
OMG...I m scared to take that class!!! How does it work? Did you get other asignements during the 5 weeks or just the oaper?
Hello everyone...new in town! I was wondering if there is anyone starting ethics...I don't know about you but it gets lonely sound this classes. I don't seem to get friendly with anyone.

I am starting Ethics next week if I don't get fed up with GCU this week and quit!!

You are totally correct. I see the same slackers in the each class. There are two that cannot even create a complete sentence in the discussion posts. One of them all of sudden started writing perfectly. I looked up her references and found out now she just cuts and pastes directly from websites..... Making me sick... She will pass and make my BSN degree worth code brown....
CLC group submissions are due tomorrow, still no movement in the color forum.... Not even a acknowledgement that there is a project, individual assignments, or a due date..... Now what?

We got marked down (if I remember right) because there was too much on the slide content (crazy lady wanted to add more, and said so in the forum, which I responded that there was too much...ding mark down).
Oh and that nurse that just keeps hanging around....5 years later she's promoted to a director position.

I had one group like that...got worse as the week went along. All but one turned their stuff in on time, and when I said...so what does the group want to do now Susie-Q got her stuff in 4 hours later. Grrr like she didn't know that was due all along! Let it settle until after the due date and then shake things up. I do not miss that party one bit!

I think it is because their work is forcing them to get their BSN for Magnet cert. They hand in garbage in the forum and in the CLC. You can spot them a mile away. All of their DQs never have a reference are lucky if they are 3 sentences long, never more than a medium paragraph. Most of them know that one person will pull their weight and the rest of the team if need be. If you were in my group I would see that the thing was done perfect as I did not want to get dinged any points. The only class I lost points in a CLC was the one that kwmom and I did with crazy woman. I think the teacher only marked us down because of the tension in the color forum!
