Grand Canyon University RN to BSN Reviews

Nursing Students School Programs Nursing Q/A

Howdy all, I bit the bullet and after much research, I decided on Grand Canyon! Wow, I did not expect BSN schools to be like used car salesmen--hounding me by emails and phone calls. Rather impressed on how Grand Canyon sort of left me alone, but at the same time kept in touch.

Commence my first class Sept 30th, excited, yet very nervous, as I'm not a big fan of school, LOL! I did extremely well on my Associate degree, graduated back in 2009 from Northern Virginia Community College. We shall see.

Would love to hear from past and present Grand Canyon RN to BSN students.

Thank you so much for the input.

Prism has you on the right track.

I did mine over a 'lunch date' with the head of HR and my husbands company, it really wasn't that bad at all.

Get a start on the proposal too - that seemed to take me longer than putting my powerpoint together and doing the presentation combined.

Good luck! Week 4 and 5 are busy, but you'll do great!

I start next week too...question, you hand them into the individual forum? You get a grade or what, I'm a little confused on this.

No, you don't get an individual grade per addendum. They are sort of loosely lumped together.

The addendums have to go through they individual because they are pamphlets, power point etc..the professor didn't want us screwing up, when we were turning in multiple assignments, up is my guess.

Thanks you guys, that helps a lot. If I don't hear from my kids school nurse soon I am going to ask my former DON at the home health company I worked for to do a "lunch date". Maybe a presentation on the FLU vaccination?

If I woke up tomorrow with my head sewn to the carpet, I wouldn't be more surprised than I am now (Chevy Chase, Christmas Vacation)...as quoted by dear hubs as I can't stop shaking my head over the 4 slides that are nothing but direct quotes (un-cited of course) from blogs (yes blogs) and not credible sources! Seriously this is class 10 (11 for me) and this is the worst garbage I have ever ever seen...going down in flames, someone grab a bucket of water and help a girl out. :dead:  :bluecry1:

I'm sorry, class 10 is past the point of cutting someone a break. Send it back with your comments, tell him/her they have until Friday noon to provide credible, properly cited, non-plagiarized information from a reputable scholarly source or they will be excluded from the project.

Tell them you converted it to a Word doc and ran it through TII and it came back 97% :sneaky:

I really wonder about some people! It didn't take long to figure out I would not want to be the nurse that takes over care of the patients some of my fellow students have taken care of.

I am wayyyy lagging in the how long I have been attending department, but I agree with Prism. Along with making sure there is some commentary in the group thread of course. *learned that certainly helps cover the hiney when dealing with a slacker*

Ok, maybe a silly question here. But I have seen a couple of you mention PICO - what does that mean/stand for?

Puddles, you'll learn about it in Intro to Research. It is basically a format for developing a research question. It includes:

(P) Population of Focus

(I) Intervention

© Comparison

(O) Outcome

(T) Time

Here is some more info found doing a quick search:

'P I C O' examples

Question:‘In patients with recurrent furunculosis, do prophylactic antibiotics, compared to no treatment, reduce the recurrence rate?'

Thank you!! If I make it through stats, nursing research is my next class.

You know what is crazy? The stuff they plagiarized was credible sites and journals. I'm shaking my head again. I ran it through grammerly. I need every point people! Sigh. I laid it out we'll see how it goes. I hope this teacher does something. This evaluation I am blowing CLCs out of the water.

I had a nice chat with my Trends prof on the individual forum...very down to earth and awesome prof.....I mentioned that fir the very 1st time everyone in our group got along, people responded right away, got the ball rolling and handed in their portion on time! I said it was amazing. She mentioned she monitors the groups very closely and the success we enjoyed is a rarity! She did her BSN at GCU I believe and said it was the same when she went through the program, always that 1 slacker or someone that causes a lot of trouble.
