Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Hi everyone,
I can't believe how hard it's getting for some of you. I just started the Leadership & Management class and I was surprised to find that we don't have a CLC group project. Which is fine by me, those just drive me nuts! The first week is almost done and we have a resume and cover letter for the first assignment. There is an assignment for each week, 2 DQ's and LOTS of READING:geek:. I have Patho, Trends and the Capstone after this class. On that Community nursing class, we didn't have to do real community work, we had 2 group projects and like 5 people in our group (that was almost chaos!). Our group did a paper on primary prevention of HIV/AIDS in my city and it was a lot of hard work because members are not all here, but we got an A. I'm glad it's over! I don't think I have ever done some much writing in my life!
I usually write my essays in several hours and don't take more than a couple of days and I also don't revise or edit after I finish. I (unfortunately or fortunately, it depends) have a big editor in my head (my constant companion) so I do it as I write.
For all that reading we have to do, well...I don't always do it because there isn't enough time sometimes. Sometimes I skim simply looking for what I need to answer the DQ's and get the assignment done. Other times, I print my book chapter to a pdf file load the pdf into my Iphone and make the phone read it to me while I get my but off the chair and do something else. I just try different ways to get the info in, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The mind tends to wander at times when you listen to the Iphone (Siri) read. I also have another program in the Iphone that can read a pdf document but I alternate because I can listen to a different voice if I get tired of one or the other.
We all have to find what works best for us as we get familiar with it all. :)
I am in Trends and also Leadership. My second week is about to end. There is a CLC in Trends. Just a powerpoint. It doesn't seem too terrible. I am getting so anxious to be done. I only do the readings to find answers to the DQ's or the week's assignment. I also don't go over my papers and edit them. I have gotten an A in every class so far. As long as I keep passing I am okay with whatever grade I get now. I just want it all to be over with.
I wish I could write like you guys do. I edit and edit some more until I like my paper. I have a tendency to brain dump and then go back and edit.
JRich, I do know they have changed some of the classes around and I think added more depth, such as the community health class. It's not designed anything like the class I took and I wonder how many other classes have changed.
I am not liking this community class. I was trying to do the work ahead but still to much. Week 4 there is a CLC presentation (which I can't really work ahead cause I need to wait for the other members of the group). Then week 5 there is a presentation, teaching proposal plan, AND 2000-word paper. Seriously!

Do you have the two discussions and six peer responses in week 5 in addition to this?!!

Yes, but don't fret. It was a busy class before and they have upped the game a bit. Still it is doable. You just might not see your family as much for the next few weeks. :)
And some people think GCU is a diploma mill........

I'm laughing because I recall a student in my class posted a question to the instructor forum asking "Is this real? Do we really have to do this or are we pretending and our assignment is what we WOULD do?" The instructor's reply was simply "Yes, it's real, and yes you do have to do it".
ouch.
