Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Have any of you gotten an invitation for the honor society? Do they do that for the online RN-BSN?

I was wondering that as well! I got a letter saying I was on the President's list for my 4.0, but nothing for the honor society!

You will about midway through https://www.alphachihonor.org/

There is the nursing honor society of Sigma Theta Tau which, if you join you get GCU discounts? Ask your advisor. I found an old email mentioning that. Not sure how much or if it's worth it. If they are dropping the ANA discount, they might be dropping this one as well.

Remember, just because your do your work online doesn't mean you are earning a lesser degree. ;)

I asked my enrollment counselor but he didn't have any idea  Guess I will ask my advisor....if I can get ahold of her! That's very true tokmom, that would be upsetting to me if they didn't include the online students in the honor society!

Yeah me too. Talk to your advisor and see what they know. You will be getting an email and I think I even received snail mail from them.

I got a letter for it. I didn't take them up on it. I researched it and it didn't look like there were many benefits to joining. I am an online only student.

I am really going crazy on my assignment for next week. I am in Community Health class and for my last assignment I have to create a presentation along with a teaching plan proposal and present to a facility (i was going to use home health). Then I have to write a paper based on the teaching provided. My problem is to find a topic to be presented. My community teaching proposal have to address the needs of my community and I have to chose one of the following: primary prevention, secondary prevention/screening for vulnerable population, bioterrorism/disaster, or environmental issues.

The home health I was going to do my teaching cares for kids with traches and G-tube. But can't find to figure out what kind of topic is appropriate. For those that have done this class, what have you used? Would you mind give me some examples? I am so lost on this assignment. Thanks!

We have to present to a facility? I thought this was all online!

Sometimes we have to do community projects (this is my first). But you can chose anything even community churches. The problem I'm having is with lack of instructions.

This was a group project for us, but our group chose to teach on obesity to inner city people in a large urban area in NY, where two CLC people were from. We "rented" a hall at local part (made sure it was near bus line) and offered healthy recipes, cooking demo's and heart healthy games for both adults and kids. The urban area targeted had a lot of heart disease and obesity.

I told you that syllabus was jacked! This is the class I had so much confusion over. But, back to your question... Since the HH agency cares for kiddos with respiratory compromise, how about Primary Prevention focusing on the importance of handwashing to avoid infections in their vulnerable population? (or would that be secondary prevention... wow how quickly we forget ). Influenza & RSV are hot topics these days, that could impact those little ones too. Or, could you call one of the HH staffers and ask them what issues they see in the kids that they'd like to have an inservice on? Remember also that the presentation can be given to lay-people, so if you get totally stuck with the HH plan, you could redirect and do something completely different. I did mine with a church Bible study group on Nutrition & Weight Status (thank you HealthyPeolple! lol), and I know another student in my class did hers to her church youth group (teen girls) on primary prevention for skin cancer. I did a flyer, I know she did a poster. No way to submit the poster though, I think she had to take a picture of it and upload it to her assignment dropbox. Good luck, that last week was seriously crazy with so many things due on one day, if I remember I think I took a couple days off work so I could get it all done :sour:
