Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Right now the wellness care plan for Health History and Screening of an Adolescent or Young Adult Client has me stumped. I'm working on researching it on my own and have been utilizing the care plans books GCU provided.
I too had difficulty with this because I'm from Old School and I'd never even heard that term (wellness dx). Like tokmom I googled it. My understanding of the Wellness Dx was that you identify something that they want to improve based on positive, proactive behaviors you see them already doing. Does that make sense? I ended up with Readiness for Enhanced Skin Integrity because the teen I interviewed was demonstrating her desire and willingness to create a better health situation for her skin (trying different products for her mild acne, and when they hadn't worked, asking mom to schedule an appt with a dermatologist). Mine was literally that short. Don't overwork this piece of the assignment, that document was long enough to begin with!!
I googled wellness care plans. I don't remember those care plan books being all that helpful.
I have never opened those care plan books provided by GCU. I think I did use the one I had for nursing school once but I don't believe it was for Health Assessment. I googled this as well and found a couple helpful entries on ALLnurses about wellness care plans.
Ok, I know that we have all complained about group projects but someone please talk me off the ledge!! Trying to edit part one of the CLC for Ethics and can take it no more! LOL
No matter how many times I keep posting in the group forum to please go to Purdue OWL if you are unfamiliar with how to properly cite or reference or to please be sure and include the page/paragraph numbers from a citation, nobody can correctly cite/reference. If I can teach myself how to properly cite/reference, am I crazy to expect that others can as well? Plus, if I ask two different times to please include the page/para number can you not do it? I knew that I would have to correct references but come on people, at least give me some help! Not one reference has been correct....
People are submitting such simplistic garbage that does not even address the assignment requirements. I know that I am a crazy perfectionist and over-achiever but this is a C paper. I am not going to write a paper from scratch at this point. Have any of you ever received less than an A on a CLC? This is the first CLC paper I have ever done - putting together a PowerPoint is easier in my opinion because there is not the issue of how a paper flows. Do I just edit for corrections and call it "done?"
And here is the best one yet - simple math! Here is one of my questions to a group member:
1. Not sure where you are coming up with the fact that assisted suicide is illegal in 38 US states. Isn't it legal in 5 states? And I even went to the resource that you cited and I am not seeing 38 states listed anywhere. If we know that it is legal in 5 states and we have 50 states in the US, wouldn't that be 50 minus 5 and then 45 states where it is illegal?
This is only part one of the group project, two more parts due next Sunday. I may be committing my own suicide by the time this is over! LOL
Rant over!!! Thanks for "listening."
I was fortunate that groups were ok..OR I had a good understanding of how the prof marked, so I didn't have to worry too much. All one can do is lay out the obvious (on the color forums) and if the other numpties are not listening, then ask the prof for guidance. You are no there to do the work for them, so they can earn their BSN..... A good # of students don't know APA....PERRLA is a lifesaver..recommend that to them....of course it is not perfect as one still has to know the source type!! Its slackers like you have, why it is important to keep all communications in the color forum....Hang in there
Thanks Flames!!
Instructor seems to be an easy grader so far (into Week 4 and I have a 100 so far - but I am perfect anyway and my papers are always spectacular! hehe). I am just concerned because as I said this is the first time I have had to do a group paper vs. the group PowerPoint. In my opinion, this paper is a piece of you know what!
I am going with just assembling the paper, making cite/reference corrections, and trying to make the sentences a bit more sophisticated. I cannot write a paper that is up to my standards with regards to content at this point and will just have to risk it. I am not one to "throw anyone under the bus" and will just have to hope that the instructor sees that I had to take the lead and also sees all of my instructions to others in the forum....

I finished with a 4.0 And once I knew a prof was a "fair" grader, I didn't lose any sleep on a CLC project as I knew my individual papers would carry me through....but that is me.....I never threw anyone under the bus....in the few times something was very bad, I would email that person....And in my case they understood, lol But there are a fair # of students who don't care, they know that the "fair" prof means their crappy work will still earn them a pass.........
I am sorry for the stress RO. I had a couple CLC Projects that were like this but everything turned out fine. I would maintain all communication in the color forum and plenty of it. Keep your tone professional and cheerful. A week before the due date if you are having problems then message the instructor and ask for advice. Play dumb and hope the instructor is watching the BS.
On a brighter note I handed in a project that was easily a C but could have been worse depending on how difficult the instructor grades. In turn we got a 100% even though not all the points in the assignment were addressed. I think that unless it is totally horrid you will be fine. I would email the instructor so that your concerns are known. I would make minor changes so that it is close but I don't think that I would stress over it. I know this is funny coming from someone who worried about everything.... I wish I knew then what I know now, grading is loosely applied.
On another note, the reason fellow students have not learned APA at this point is because of this grading issue. If there is no attempt made then at most they are docked 5 points. If you just want to pass then why take the time for the five points. I am almost to this concerning my discussion posts, I don't need the five points.
Just keep plugging away, you will done soon. The worst grade I have ever had on a CLC project is a 91%. Didn't hurt me much because on all my other assignments I had near 100%. You will be fine.
Heading into week 4 of Leadership and Vocation..... discussion topics done for this week and will start on the paper Monday. Getting psyched for the capstone. I have a couple good instructors but if you had a wonderful instructor please pass it along. I will be making a request this week.
Has anyone received a letter from GCU that informs you that you qualify for a national honors society? Can't remember which one but of course they want money to enter. Anyone take them up on it. I did for my ADN but don't think that it helped me much. It did look good on my resume though.

Ya, got one and yep, paid for it,lol figured it would look good on a resume. https://www.alphachihonor.org/
I think most students gets good marks in this program, I really do..doesn't matter if one deserves it or not. I had one CLC groupo that was terrible.....Other student took the lead and I just followed as I knew the prof was a very "fair" marker..Isent out a fewe emails, but no one cared......it was the worst CLC of my program....still obtained a 93% on it....it was embarrassingly bad.
