Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Well, I'm in my 50's and I don't consider myself old at all. And I certainly don't let my age stop me from things I want or need.

I don't plan on retiring any time soon, and can't since I'm a primary bread winner. The BSN was on my bucket list AND necessary to survive in a world that is progressing to community health and BSN nurses.

If I want the desk gig later on because I can no longer do med surg, then I'll need my BSN.

I always shake my head when people get hung up on the price of education, but think nothing of driving a brand new car, 20 K. off the lot and not bat an eye at the immediate depreciation.

Education is something that never depreciates.

Only you can make the decision if it's the right thing to do. We can't make it for you.

Sorry if I sound so cold, but you have waffled on this for close to a year, and could have been near the end of the program by now.

I have said before that you seem too hung up on this age thing, to the point of obsession. I hope you don't let your "age"" hold you back in other aspects of your life. :(

She may be close to retirement, and I know if I was, would not be spending $$ on a BSN if it isn't required for ones job. Would enjoy spending it on something one can enjoy, lol

Did I say for her to spend the money on the degree? No, I did not. I simply pointed out her fears, that she has been expressing for close to a year, shouldn't be so age focused.

I also pointed out that people complain about student loans, yet drop money on a car without a second thought. Once that car is driven off the lot, the owner loses thousands.

Lastly, if she is like every other person in this country, the average age to retire is 68. One cannot draw their full social security until late 60's. I believe, 68.

It also depends on personal health, finances, and if she works in a job where they won't faze out an ADN, or if physical abilities are needed.

pinks posts have a certain pattern to them. She's too OLD, to learn.

We know that nobody is ever to old to learn. She is crippling herself with that attitude, and it makes me sad it may be spilling over into her personal life.

There is my psycho-babble moment. I don't care if ANYONE goes to GCU or Harvard. I don't lose sleep, trust me.

However, I will try to support those that post here with questions.

No such thing as off topic here :wacky:

I've never heard of that class... The closest thing I've had to what that sounds like was Trends and Issues in Health Care?

No I have that one later on :/ no one I've talked to has taken it so it's Making me nervous. They plugged this one in instead of stats since I have that already.

Never heard of it, being that it is an "anything" class u can request something else. I had to take 2 "anything" classes. I did AMP 450 and HLT 317. No group project in AMP 450!!!

Nope, did not take this class and glad I didn't have too. I have to take a extra leadership class (can't remember the name or number) that doesn't start till next week. One week OFF!!!!

What is amp 450? Is it easier than hlt 317?

Not for me to say which class is easier as we all have different strengths.

AMP 450, found somewhat interesting and NO CLC group

HLT317, was a weird class! Many were not nurses (not saying thats a bad thing) maybe it was their 1st class in an University setting, but many had no clue what APA was. And when I say no clue, that is being nice! Was very obvious as we had to critique another students paper, and then post it in the forum for all to see! I was not a fan of that as I dont think other students need to be openly critiqued. My fellow student (and he was not the only 1) didn't even do the correct assignment....I was told by the student that critiqued my paper, to lose the headings, as it made it look like a story book, lol I preferred AMP450.

I am already taking amp 450, it looks like it's my last class. So I guess I'll just stick with this class I'm scheduled for. I hope it's okb

I agree with the issue of age. I am also in my 50s and just completed this program. I don't feel old and plan on working until they ask me to leave. I needed my BSN for my job and it was on my bucket list as well. I am so proud of myself for having completed it. I don't feel that age was a hinderance to my learning, in fact I think that it was helpful due to the fact that I did not have as many commitments as I might have had when I was younger. I also have found that I enjoy school more now than I did right out of high school. Of course, these are all personal preferences and everyone has their own opinions. For me, I have no regrets having completed this program and will hold my head high when I tell people that i have my BSN!!

A question for all those that have finished the Capstone.... Are there weekly discussion posts? Getting excited to be done and am trying to plan. I talked with my supervisor and will only have to work 3 days a week during the capstone. I think that this will help me a lot.
