Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Published

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

Also, has does anyone know for certain whether or not the ANA discount is still valid or not?

I was told that those starting a year ago were no longer eligible to get that discount. Once I took my long break I no longer had it, but the break was more valuable to me than those few dollars. HTH.

I will be starting GCU's RN-BSN program this upcoming Monday. I know that several people have mentioned doubling up on courses- can anyone recommend at what point this should be tried?

You can only double up starting with class 5 (I believe). Looking back...if you were without children (and/or spouse), and all you did was dedicate all your free time to school. All your classes could be doubled. I think the two I would not double would be Research and Capstone. I overlapped the last week of Trends with the first week of Capstone and I thought I was going to have to pull my eyelashers out to stay awake I was so sleep deprived.

Thanks for your responses Winterwhite28, BSN!

Indy, June 1? Great, we can be buddies. Plus this group is full of wonderful support.

I don't work..no kids....and yes one could easily double up.....If I wanted to do, could pretty much do a whole course in just over a week....if writing papers is ur strong point, ur laughing. Depending on the adviser..u may not be able to double up anything with Capstone..I tried and my adviser said 100% no..even though I told her I knew other had and were, lol but I did not push it that hard

I think the ANA deal is gone. Last I asked anyway.

My counselor very kindly layed out the options, esp as things would happen over the holidays. Not that it is such a big deal but I don't see my children very often and usually have them here.

Whoa Flames! No way could I do all of the requirements in a little over a week! I like to do the reading and research, it always took me way longer than that!

I got a discount through Association of California Nurse Leaders. You can ask your advisor if there are discounts if you live in another state. I was told the discount through ANA is no longer valid. I have been doubling up since my 5th class. i don't have small children so it has worked well for me. It is intense at times, so don't commit to it unless you have the time. Only 2 more classes left!! I can almost see the light!

Every paper I did--besides Capstone----was done in 1 day......For some reason Sunday at noon was a good time to start, lol

Little vent here:

I am trying to finish my discussions for ethics this week and I just can't do it. Every original discussion post is the same, all these nurses are stating that the Hippocratic Oath is the same as the Nightingale Pledge.... I want to just unload on them with both barrels. They are not drawing comparisons like "The elements of the Nightingale Pledge mirror the requirements of the Hippocratic Oath, blah blah, blah."

No, one person stated something like, "We stood and took the Nightingale Pledge, also known as the Hippocratic Oath, blah, blah, blah."

All I can do is shake my head......
