Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
Is it safe to vent about particulars here? I'll keep it vague, just in case. Anyone ever click the submit assignment link instead of the submit to turn it in? Things were really chaotic last Sunday evening, and durnit, but I clicked the wrong one. Why is there a delete icon if you can't delete anything? Tech support couldn't help either, but they said to message the instructor and she could reassign it. My instructor and I have gone back and forth 3 messages each, and I just sent the fourth tonight. I still haven't been able to resubmit the assignment. The communication I am getting back from the instructor is not as helpful as I feel it could be, not only in this regard but also in other communications. This is literally the worst learning experience I have ever had in my entire life. I cannot even believe the interactions are happening, it's like a strange dream. I left a message for my counselor tonight to see what can be done. Am I losing my mind? Am I making a bigger deal of this than I should? 4 more days, just 4 more days of this class.
Similar thing happened to me in STATS with accidentally not submitting correctly. Instructor gave me a zero and closed the class so since it was the last week it made things more complicated. I took the zero instead of fighting it as I still had a decent grade.......still miffed about it though.
(wanna know how I know this? The ONE AND ONLY TIME I gave up control of assignment submission for a CLC, the girl who was assigned to do it submitted the wrong paper.....)
Wow, well I guess anyone can make this mistake. I worry about this every time I submit something. I usually feel chest pains while my cursor hovers over the submit button. It takes me at least a hour to press that darn button sometimes. Once in Health Assessment I even woke up at 0300 worried I submitted the wrong paper with corrections, got up and read what I submitted just to make sure. Work was hell the next day, but I got a good grade!!
What do you mean when you say you've gone back and forth a few times with the instructor, what is the confusion? You asked if she could reopen the submission box, the only answer should have been yes or no. Let's just hope that all this lollygagging isn't costing you 10% deduction per day (as is school policy). You clearly turned it in on time, you likely (hopefully?) sent her an email or PM/Individual QFI right away (before MN on Sunday?), and you probably have a ticket number from the IT people (even though they weren't able to help, at least it's proof you tried).
I sent her an individual forum message approx. 2215 Sunday, saying what I had done, and asking to resubmit properly, I attached a copy of the document there, so she could see that what I was turning in now was the same as what I was turning in for a final product, and wasn't trying to just buy more time. I also stated that I hoped it could be counted as on time as she could see by the time stamp on my original submission it was done on time. She didn't respond after about 20 hours, so I sent her an email to her GCU account on Monday evening. Tuesday morning she replied via email that she would address it in the forum. Tuesday evening her message was essentially, yes but you still need to turn it in and I see that you did. Huh? Ok, so I go to try to submit it again, and nothing was unlocked or whatever she needed to do so that I could resubmit. So, I sent a message in individual forum Tuesday evening asking if she would have me resubmit it, going through turn it in. Wednesday evening she replied "yes this is usually the practice". Ok...so I go to resubmit it to turn it in, and I can't. So now I feel like this is some weird cat and mouse game, and I'm starting to lose my patience. I replied "Are you going to reassign the assignment? Tech support said that is what you would need to do. It still shows that the original submission is there. I cannot click 'new attempt' and I cannot delete it." Finally, this afternoon she did whatever it took to allow me to resubmit the assignment. It was a very busy day and I missed the call back from my SA and couldn't call him back before the end of the day, so I'll try again tomorrow.
Ah, well this instructor didn't post anything in the announcements except for the objective and assignments (that were in the syllabus, why bother? and one of those was the wrong assignment, even). I seriously thought maybe this was a brand new instructor and was trying to give a little grace, but then I found out that others have had problems with her as well. Why do they keep instructors that people complain about? Is GCU so hungry for my tuition and having such a shortage of instructors that they just don't care? Sorry, you can probably tell my hide is a bit chapped by this experience.Regarding your specific question of where they're mentioned, it's probably buried in the Instr Announcements. This is where they typically tell you what they consider a substantive post (which also differs from prof to prof), how many time you have to post per week, yada yada, so I'd bet that's where you'll find theinfo.

I once posted on FB asking if any of my friends attending school online felt panic when they went to hit the submit button.
May sound strange, but the response that made me feel so much better was from one of my former directors. She left our facility to work for AWOHHN, finished her Masters, and her Phd. I would see her all the time when she brought students through our department. She became somewhat of a mentor. Her response was "YES, every time!"
Whew!!!!

Omg, I did this too!

Well I just gotta say this, but I think it depends. I don't always dislike the difficult instructors because those are sometimes the ones you can learn the most from. I don't want to be handed an "A".
So anyway you're going to get the wackos no matter where you go. I think there are less at GCU overall, thank goodness.
Just curious if they are typically announced anywhere, or do they just appear out of thin air onto the forum? I feel like (and maybe I'm completely off my rocker) but that if something is expected of me and counts for points that it should be listed SOMEWHERE.
Mine have never been announced per se. They just show up under announcements with a link to some site to complete a quiz and then come back and comment. Or just the instructors own question about some part of the week. No need to reference just jabber (busy work).
What is it about student teachers having something to prove, being super nit-picky, and grading harshly??? Half my class is up in arms over this TA and the grading, and one person even laid it all out in the class forum lol.
Please copy and paste that to me in a PM, I need a good laugh! The one class that I bailed on after the instructor and I butted heads had a TA. I heard she was wicked! The poor soul probably has lost any kind of a passing grade and took one for the team, go fellow 'lope!
