Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
You seem to be in the typical mode of the beginner gcu student. Every class seems busier than the last and health assessment was, for me, one off the busiest. After health assessment it seemed to level off.Like you, it's not brain wracking stuff but interesting and insightful.
It's the amount of work and reading that keeps one on their toes.
Yes, and no. I do think I am in GCU beginner mode, but it really has more to do with all the other stuff going on in my life. This is everyone's same problem and I haven't figured it out yet I guess. The holidays are coming, upcoming surgery, wife says we are going out of town this weekend to shop for new furniture (and I have a paper and CLC project due), new nurse and new job, and every other daily obligation everyone else has. Feel under pressure, but it will work out in the end.
I have figured out GCU though. Everything is done early and not at 2358 on Sunday... I just wish I had a couple more hours each day to get things done. Oh, and my advisor said "you know you don't have to get 100% in each class..." This I haven't figured out I guess. Everything deserves my full attention. My DQ posts can sometimes be classified as papers (750-100 words), yeah I need to cut it back a little.

But isn't your wife in classes too? Is she getting her stuff done early?
I'm not looking forward to the holidays + school. I completely missed Thanksgiving last year, my mom brought me a care-plate!

I've never understood this, either. When I missed said-Thanksgiving (above), my uncle called me and said something similar "you know, you don't have to get straight-As". I know I don't have to get straight As, but the way I look at it is, if I'm going to invest the energy and do it, I might as well do it right, and if I do it right, then the end result just happens to be an A, right? Like what exactly do they mean? Are they saying "leave out 2 parts of the rubric on purpose so you can have more time with family"? I'm either going to do it all, and follow the rules, which just happens to take x-amount of time, or not? I don't get it.

No, my wife is a teacher (kindergarten) and my in house editor/proofreader. So no, her job isn't complete until I am done!!!

Agreed. Do we track all the patient's I&O's or only the ones we "get to" because I wouldn't want to strain myself......
BUUUUUTTTTTTT, 1000 word discussion posts??? No, I can chill out a little.... I will always strive for the column all the way to the right on every rubric...

Wow I am losing my mind - who did we have here just shortly-ago whose wife was taking the same classes? I need a vaca.

Yeah, that's a fact on the DQs, that's what my stepkids call "TLTR" (text-speak for Too Long To Read). They open something and if it's visually overwhelming they just close it right back up and don't even bother.
Oh, and the right-hand column is the only part I print.
Stupid question, I only have an inkjet printer. Would it be best to get a 3 in 1, they are pretty inexpensive. Just wondering if I will be scanning things that will need to be sent?WalMart is having a sale.
Not needed for class. The only time I had to scan an attachment was for the capstone. There is a form that you have to send back that shows you presented your work to a charge nurse, manager etc. There was a way to do it so you could just write on the actual attachment, but I had to print it out and have my manager sign it. I then had to scan it and email it back.

That's what I meant. The busy work keeps one busy on top of everyday life. Speaking for Pandora and myself, it took until the health assessment class to find that balance. Just when we thought we succeeded, the next class expected a bit more, pulling time away from personal life. Again, we had another ball tossed into the mix that we had to keep in the air. Finally, after health assessment, we succeeded in keeping our sanity. That seems to be the common thread I see a lot.

WOW 750-1000 words on DQ's! I never did one that long and have gotten A's in all my classes and full credit for all my DQ's. Knock on wood! Ahhh I don't have the cool smiley faces yet so my knock on wood is a bang a head in the wall! LOL If you like to write then keep on writing but if I was you I would scale back some on those DQ's and put that writing effort into the assignments that are worth more.
... and put that writing effort into the assignments that are worth more.
Especially when you look up one day and unexpectedly see that those DQs that used to be worth 20 points each are now worth 5... :banghead:
:banghead:
:banghead:
This is when I noticed people starting to turn theirs in on the day after they were due. I suspect that would shave off 1 out of the 5 for being late, so they did the math and decided it was worth the 1 point to do whatever had a higher priority in their life that evening than stress over a point in the big scheme of 1,000.
I haven't opted for this method yet, because I don't have a crystal ball, and if I ever got to the end of my class and my final grade was 94.4%, I'd probably kick myself out the window.

Congratulations! By the way, I purchased a HP 3052A inkjet printer (49.99 at Wally-World) at the start of nursing school 3.5 years ago and it still is going strong. I go through a lot of ink, but I also print a lot. I have only had to scan one thing in for any GCU class. I don't think it happens often. I would recommend it or it's replacement because it is also wireless.
