Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
FYI, there is a CLC in Trends, just got my Friday preview of the class. Just wanted to spread the word `cause I think I remember someone saying there wasn't one. So if you're looking to predict your schedule or do some juggling/doubling, thought you might want to know
Refresh my brain. What is it?
Off topic, but if anyone reads the gcu newsletter, but gcu is thinking of changing back to non-profit status. They don't like the stigma attached and do not want to be grouped in with the scammers.
Is the newsletter online or is it mailed to you? I would like to read, keep up with what the lopes are doing.....
I think regarding instructors (good vs. not so good), it's personal preference. I myself prefer someone who is interactive, clear with instructions, and when I ask a question to clarify, they respond with a real answer that helps me move on with my assignment. Also someone that when they do grade, if I've not done a stellar job, please tell me exactly where my weakness was so I can improve next time. Speed of grading is not something I necessarily care about, they all have 7 days to get their grades posted so that's something I'm willing to pass on if I can get someone who is interested in helping me succeed.
My criteria are similar to yours. I figure once it is handed in it really doesn't matter, other than the first week because you can kinda "grade" where they are going to focus. I've never had it handed back to me so late that I did not have time to fix the next one, ever. It is focusing on the minor error in APA and not saying an original word about something I have slaved over with the tenderness of a mama, yeah that I don't get! I can tell when I have someone who is interacting with me and that is great. Oh and picking on one thing one week and another thing another week, make up your mind because you didn't mark me down on it last week was it really wrong in the second week...leaves me confused!
Especially when you look up one day and unexpectedly see that those DQs that used to be worth 20 points each are now worth 5...:banghead:

:banghead:
This is when I noticed people starting to turn theirs in on the day after they were due. I suspect that would shave off 1 out of the 5 for being late, so they did the math and decided it was worth the 1 point to do whatever had a higher priority in their life that evening than stress over a point in the big scheme of 1,000.
I haven't opted for this method yet, because I don't have a crystal ball, and if I ever got to the end of my class and my final grade was 94.4%, I'd probably kick myself out the window.
Are you saying that DQs in a class were originally worth 20 and they changed them to 5 in the middle of the class? Yikes. My husband says I am limited to an hour a dq (I sneak in extra time, lol). Actually they never take that long once you have read the assignments!

It also has to do with the changes they are talking about with federal loans. When you graduate your monthly repayment cannot be more than 8% of your monthly income will be tied to for profit school loans (is my understanding). And who graduates with less than 8% of their monthly income going to school loans (said no one ever in the last 15 years). I may be wrong but I thought that is how I read it, I think it is a good thing for GCU to consider and move on if that is the case because they provide an above excellent program that is needed for those of us that cannot attend offline.
"Whan-Whoe"... scholarship is not how the email stated. Much less than indicated. Still I am pleased.
Am told the letter is "often misunderstood". But a money is money, even if a much smaller amount.
Regarding instructors, I have one colleague who just went with whomever she got, no problems.
Another that pre-choose instructors, etc... both had good experiences. I think it is a personal thing
in terms of how you want to interact.

I get the online version. This is the link for the newsletter, and the article is in the slides of news stories.

Yes, that is part of it too. There are many reasons why, but I just wanted to focus on the fact that the for profit and not for profit, that we have to repeatedly defend, especially on AN is hopefully a thing of the past. I'm happy that GCU recognizes the stigma and wants to be rid of it.

I was told by my counselor when I started to keep DQs to less than 400 words. I have to admit that TLTR rules for me too. If I'm looking for something to respond to on the boards and it's that long I never read it. Hopefully you will get in a grove so you are not taking that much time to answer that long...that is a paper!
