Grand Canyon RN-BSN

Nursing Students Online Learning

Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?

Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?

On a lighter note: Do you ever reach the day your nursing shoes are not meeting your needs... they hurt, the structure is gone?

I ordered new shoes black and tan.. today.. way way overdue!! hey hey!!

I was so happy to graduate nursing school and wear the shoes I wanted. Bought me a new pair of asic's running shoes that have to be left at work. I simply love them but didn't realize that I would be actually "running" in them!! Planning on a new pair every 8-10 months...

This instructor seems more hands on so far, but nothing that makes me nervous.

My research instructor seems to be the most interactive I've had so far. I really think she reads every single post. Like you experienced, I have instructors that do not comment....on anything....and when asked a question the answer is...refer to the rubric...blah blah blah...Um, yeah if the rubric were clear I obviously would not be asking......GRRR. If I remember right, Family Health Promotion was filling out assessment information, kinda lengthy and educating somebody on a health promotion issue along with creating a brochure. I talked to a young mother about the risk of her infant being exposed to second-hand smoke. Good Luck. Always feels good when you can check a class off the to-do list!

I had an instructor call me after I posted a question in the private forum. She said it was easier to call than explain. When my husband said that B.MC was on the phone I just about had a heart attack!

So for Family-Centered Health promotion, did anyone have to interview 3 families (from different cultures) and write a paper on the interview? I also have to select a single family, assess their health, and write about it.

Only problem I see is I don't have that many people that I know that I could ask for their help. I am not a hermit or anything, but seriously..... I don't hang with anyone. Not of different cultures, not of the same culture. This might be a tough class.

Ah. Yes I do remember that. I believe I emailed the questionnaire to a couple families and we have some nurses from different cultures at work as well. I had a similar assignment in my ADN program. Fortunately the same families obliged both times.

Holy Cow. I'd freak out too if my husband said my instructor was on the phone. It's nice they took the effort to contact you to ensure understanding.

i just finished that paper tonight. I work with several nurses from different cultures so it made it easy. I typed up a questionnaire for them to take home along with the assessment. We don't have much free time at work for an interview so it worked out well. Lucky for you if you don't have a CLC in Family Centered Health. Ours is due in week 5

Yes, I did. I used co workers and then a friend who is married to a S. African for the single family paper.

I can't help you either, otherwise I would. There may be some folks on AN that may if you email the questionnaire.

My next class is Family-Centered Health Promotion. Looking over the class I see no CLC and no assignment due the last week of class. Bad thing is there is a paper due the first week.

You want the good news first or the bad news?

Bad news: Sadly, there is a CLC for this class. I also remember that week 5 being blank, but my happy-dance was to be short-lived. Turns out there was some LC glitch and the instructor had to add it manually or something. Anyway, read your actual syllabus, week 5... Go HealthyPeople2020!

Good news: That first paper on VARK learning styles is super interesting. Honestly, it completely changed the way I think, and I hearken back to that dumb paper all the time. It clarified some things about myself that I never knew, and it has helped me be aware of other people and how to deliver information to them that will best meet their needs. It will completely open your eyes on patient teaching and why sometimes they just look at you with a blank stare, nod their heads, and readmit a month later with the same problems. I found it fascinating, but I'm kind of a nerd :bookworm:

Oh yes..healthy people...

I swear they hide those clc in the syllabus. A couple classes I thought I was good, this one included and suddenly there it is...sigh...

Prism, the vark taught me to look at my dc style. I use a variety of methods and I have even asked the pt how they learn best.

Mission accomplished for what I need... moving forward.
