Is there any updated information? I have been in heavy contact with them and am looking at taking their RN-BSN program. I work with a GCU grad and she has nothing but positive things to say, but I want more opinions. ?
Any pro's and cons? Thankfully the only class I'm missing is stats and that is offered in the actual BSN program. I'm a bit nervous as my algebra skills are way old. If anyone took this class, do you have any advice?
How is the program going for you so far? Did you only have to take core nursing classes? And if i may ask, how much is the program costing you in total?
Hi,
Not Flames, but I'm in the 9th class with GCU. :) Two other AN people and I only had core classes with two of us completing our courses in May. So far, everything for us has gone smoothly. Overall we have had some pretty good professors. Ironically, our most difficult professor was in spirituality.
My costs will be around 8 thousand by the time work reimbursement and grants kick in.
Well i talked to my enrollment counselor....
From wat i understand the LDR461 service learning course is a leadership course i would have to take if i choose. I would not have to take the health assessment class because that course would transfer in as a credit from my LPN school. And because i would be in the RN BSN program there are so many "upper course" credits i would need to take and since health assessment transferred in they added the LDR461 course. I do have the option of taking the health assessment course and dropping the leadership course if i choose or keep it as is. If i do decide to keep the leadership course, it would be the last course and its not 5wks in lenght but 7. Meaning it would take me 2 extra weeks to finish the program.
Cost of each nursing class is $1395.00 Plus the Canyon Connect fee (pays for the text books) so that is $1505 per nursing class. If you become an ANA member you get a 10% discount ($139.5) bringing the cost down to $1365.50. As well there is a 1 time $400 technology fee. So if one needs 12 classes it should be a grand ttl of approx $16786. Which I think is very reasonable. Many others I looked into were in the $20,000 + range
Ensure you know the differences between some of the rule of when your receiving financial aid and paying out of pocket. I'm paying out of pocket. People receiving financial aid I believe (don't quote me) can only take so many breaks longer than 2 weeks during the whole course. A fellow student told me, one could only do that twice. As well with the ANA discount if you want to take a break longer than 2 weeks, you need to get approval.
I recall my adviser explaining to me why I had to take these 2 extra non nursing classes (but got 2 of the nursing classes dropped) Something to do with so many upper/lower level requirements, blah blah blah, lol I was happy to just have 2 of the nursing classes dropped and the 2 non-nursing classes I can test out, or just take the classes, and they appear much simpler than the nursing classes!
Thanx for the info...i really apprecite it. I will be shure ro check into the who greater than 2wk break thing. And yea a coupke of other schools i looked into wanted 20,000. And yes i will be using my financial aide. I have no choice....but i am excited to start. Im jus hooing i will be successful and can catch on to the whole "online classroom" thing. Never took an onkine class before. But everybody that takes classes online seems to lik it. And your input as well as a few other has helped me alot in my decision to go to GCU. I jus despise group project. Lol
I personally like online classes--go at ur own pace. GCU offers a free online prep class. I took it about a month before my 1st class! You don't have to do it, nor is it a pass or fail course, but it allows you to see the layout of the online program. Shows you how to post questions, how to submit your work. All of which is very easy to do, it truly is a very user friendly system.
My only advice is if you don't know how to use MS Word or PowerPoint---learn now!! I have had a few that have complained they are computer illiterate, don't know how to use Word or Powerpoint--which causes them even more stress, and when it comes to group projects, its really not fair to others in the group, but thats just my 2 cents, lol
And the group projects can be a lot easier than a paper, at least for me, but so far I have had decent groups in my 3 classes. Knowing that group projects are can be a Pain--I do my best to ensure my group is set for success, lol I let it be known right away, I won't put up with the crap--al in a nice way. But I'm emailing my group members right away, lol And I save all the emails--as they say Document, Document!!

The issues I have seen in my groups are not people who don't really show, but some that lag behind or they are ESL and don't express themselves well and are not proficient at APA. Articles are handed in to the group with no references or citations. Things can be a mess. Now that I'm further along, I don't see that as much. My guess is those people may have been culled out.
Anyway, as Flames says. Become proficient in both Word and power point before you start. Your first class assignment will have both.

I don't think it even lists Capstoe now,lol My last course listed is NRS-451V Nursing Leadership and Management Aug 25, 2014 (O101) Maybe becauses I have 2 other non nursing courses I have to do first (which I can try and test out--or just do the courses)
