hey i am taking the nclex again for the fourth time!!! i graduated in 1999 and when i failed the third time i gave up!!! i went to work in another field for seven years and i was so miserable. everyday i would tell myself this is not what you went to college to do. i kept telling myself i was a failure!!!! then around the first of this year i saw one of my mentors from nursing school and she asked if i had taken the test again and i told her no cause i felt like a failure. she said do you think i am a bad nurse and i told her no you are awesome!!! then she told me she had failed the test seven times and back then you could only take the test 2 times a year! well then on the eighth time she became a nurse. man when you have a wonderful mentor tell you a story like that you get pumped back up!!!! so here i am and ready to tackle the nclex for the last time!!! i have been studing so hard and want to pass this time.
any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! i have sent off for suzanne's tips!!!! i will be an rn soon!!!!

YOU GO GIRL!! You can and will do this So glad you came back to try again, the world needs good nurses.
Wishing you all the best. When do you take the NCLEX this time?
Just curious but since you graduated 8 years ago, do you have to take a refresher course of any kind before you can sit for the NCLEX again?
Fingers crossed for you! You will do it.
thanks!!! i was going to try in feburary, but i think i am shooting for december now cause i fell so so good about it this time!!! i didn't have to take a refresher course, but i have taken the hurst review and saunders test question.
i can do all things through christ who strengthens me!!!!

If you have completed the first step as set out in the sticky New revised tip then pm Suzanne but you need to make sure you follow her program as it stands then she will get back to you but be aware she does work and may take a few days plus she only sends out actual programme every 2 weeks so don't think next posting is due until beginning of Nov.
Congrats on taking the steps to come back and good luck to the future

i think we're in the same boat, so we will not sink this time around!! i graduated in '99 too, tested once in '00 and failed. my confidence was shot and i resorted to another career field. it wasn't until last june while struggling through another degree, that my "aha" moment surfaced. i already have a nursing degree, so why not do something with it? plus, i know it's what i was really meant to do in this lifetime.
i have been using suzanne's plan. it took me 3 months just to finish that darn saunder's book because i had to read each and every ch. i will hopefully be testing in dec.
by the way, which nursing board did you apply to? i'm originally from tx but currently living in japan. tx won't allow me to retest because it's been more than 4 years since i graduated. they said i would have to complete a "nursing program". yikes!!! so i would like to find a board which won't give me the run-around. i've looked into a few but some either require a refresher course or also have time limits.
i'm so glad that you have that mentor to offer you some encouragement!! my husband seems to think i'm wasting my time because chores and meals aren't getting done like they were before. he thinks i'm self-absorbed in my studying. it's really frustrating so i come to the forum and seek motivation, encouragement and prayer here.
keep in touch. and let me know how you're doing!

first of all i want to wish you luck in your upcoming nclex.
i just graduated in may 2007. i had to take a review course for three weeks ( mon to friday, 8am to 4pm) to kind of refresh my memory of all i had learnt in nursing school. ncsbn reviews and changes format of questions every three years so you will find fill in the blanks, select all that apply, click on a hot spot, rearrange answers in a specific format etc.
i would encourage you to strongly consider taking a refresher course, also use different books , look for the latest editions with the new format questions like saunders, mosby, lippincot and springhouse so as to get a different view of questions from different authors. as you know the boards are set by many people. i got the books from the library so i didnt have to buy them.
then make an effort to do at least 200 questions per day and before you do the boards at least 5, 000 practise questions.
remember to take breaks, eat well, exercise or do something that you love.
i had to work full time and go to school fulltime but i was determined to do whatever it takes for me to succeed. it is important to have faith in yourself that you can do anything. and never give up!

You can definitely do this. I am scheduled for Nov 6 for the second time. I am using Suzannes plan currently and only. Life is full of setbacks and things almost NEVER happen when we want them to but the main thing to know is that you have completed the HARDEST part of the process, and you are ONLY 1 step away. God did not bring you thru nursing school to give up. You have a purpose here and everything happens for a reason so whether you grad in 99 or 79 you have the knowledge, ability and support to accomplish this goal. Put your plan into action. No one can take from you what you have learned. You have the right mind to succeed. It maybe have taken you a few years BUT it is NEVER too late. Lets get the ball rollin! ALL things are possible thru him and nothing is too hard for him to handle. Were here for ya!
thanks so much for the words of encouragement!!!! i know i (we) have worked hard for this and i (we) deserve it!! i pray that everyone will soon have their dream come true by passing the nclex!!!!
