HI, I'd like to ask if someone has the same sitch as me and what they did.
I am a graduate of Manila Doctors College last May 2011.
I'm back here in California. I am a permanent resident (green card holder). I have read on the CA.RR.GOV that I do not need to take the Philippine local boards or the cgfns and the toefl exam to take the NCLEX.
I have already accomplished my livescan and sent in my application and paid 150$.
Now they have sent me a letter requiring me with the following things:
1. Class schedule for the nursing program completed at MDC
2. Transcript for all education and training sent from MDC
3. Enrollment forms during my nursing years
4. Clinical rotation schedule and/or student logbook reflecting dates, instructor's signature and location of clinical training completed
5. Social security card
6. Passport and visa
I have no problem with numbers 2,5 and 6. But my the others I don't know how to get. I don't have a copy of my class schedules anymore, and so as my enrollment forms for 4 years. and most importantly, the clinical rotation schedule with dates and instructor's signature. HOW WERE YOU GUYS ABLE TO ACCOMPLISH THAT? I'm self reviewing for my exam and going to the library everyday, but right now i cant focus because I don't know how to accomplish these things.
I REALLY HOPE SOMEONE CAN GIVE ME AN ADVICE ON WHAT'S THE BEST THING TO DO.

What is CA.RR.GOV??
If you had taken the NLE in the Phils, you wouldn't be going through this.
Class schedule - If the school keeps all students data in the computer, they might still have it saved. Try asking the Registrar, and get them printed out for you.
Enrollment forms - Every semester you enroll, you had to fill up more than one copy didn't you? One for you, and one for the registrar, one for accounting, and so on... Ask the registrar if they still keep files of the enrollment forms. Get photo copies of those.
Clinical rotation stuff - Before you graduated, didn't you have to do "clearance", where you had to get signatures from all your Clinical Instructors? That clearance sheet should have the date, CI signature, and hospital where you rotated, and that you completed all the hours required. You didn't do the running around campus, and going back and forth the hospitals getting signatures?? If you didn't, then you might have to do it the HARD WAY... which is to go back to the philippines, and get all that stuff done.
*NOTE: I have not applied to the board, I was just thinking of what you might be able to do

sorry, i meant RN.CA.GOV.
thank you for your reply.
we dont have that clearance thing unfortunately. sigh.
id call my school and ask about what they can do about it, going back to the phils to fix all these stuff is my last option.

that entails alot of work. even i dont have my enrolment forms anymore and i doubt if the school still keeps it.

Same thing happened to my cousins who migrated in the US outright after graduation and weren't able to take the local board. They were also having problem providing details of the clinical rotations as students normally don't keep a record of this, even the school normally don't keep this info in their files for long. My cousins are now thinking of going back to the Phil to take the local board to make the application with CA BON a lot easier.

Yes, that's exactly the reason why CA requires local board exam, it's actually to make it easier on the applicants.
offleemits,
it's either you go back to Manila and take the local board exam, or else it's possible you will never get a CA license. Others may suggest to you to get the license in another state first then endorse it to california, but once California process your application the 2nd time around, they will ask you even more specific requirements that is impossible to get.

If you complete the application, you will be able to take the boards in 2011, you will not be issued a license until you come to the USA with a visa, then a CA license will be issued. If you are planning to live in Washington it would make more sense to apply to the Washington Board of Nursing.

If you have no SSN then you will not be able to apply for nurse registration with California, they no longer (since June 2010 if I remember rightly) accept applications without SSN
Also better to look at the state you plan on living and working in as requirements may be the same when endorsing as if a new applicant especially if you haven't trained in the US
thanks for that info.. so what's the best way for me to do?. i want to take an exam.. a friend of us told me that its better to take cgfns first, but on the other hand, there are some friends of mine told me not to take it because i cant use it anyways.. its better for me to take nclex as they said..

CGFNS offer different services but the main one that BON's require are CES which is a breakdown of your transcripts. If you check the bottom of the page you will see a link to the state BON's just check out the Washington state for their requirements for Foreign trained because it may be the same requirements for endorsement as it is for initial application. NCLEX is national therefore it doesn't matter what state you apply to the questions all come from the same source
