Just out of curiosity, what is everybody elses grading system like?? For me, we must have a 78 or higher to pass and that is considered a C.
A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 78-84
Also, it goes towards your GPA in that manner. For instance, if your grade is a 92, they record it as a B and you only get 3.0 for it. I think this stinks and it is making my GPA drop. I dont mind it for the program, but for my final records I am upset.
At our school:
A: 93-100
B: 85-92.99
C: 78-84.99
D: 70-76.99
F: 0-69.99
A Grade of C is required in all nursing courses.
"The whole number to the left of the decimal point is the final course grade. There is no rounding up of the final grade. The final grade in theory is reported as the grade for the course provided the student is satisfactory in clinical experience. If the student is unsatisfactory in the clinical experience, the grade for the course is reported as F".
I think the higher grading scale is pretty common in schools of nursing. Even when my Mom went to NS in the early 80's she had to get a 94 to get an A.

We are on the 7 point scale here:93 - 100 A
85 - 92 B
78 - 84 C
My kids had a 7 point scale when we moved here
for high school but before that I'd never seen it. ALL the other programs at our college follow the 10 point scale, which seems SO much easier to get that A in...
You're assuming that a 90% at your school is equivalent to a 90% elsewhere, or vise-versa. A 90% at a hard school could be equivalent to a 94% at an easier school, while reversing the situation would make it a very significant difference. Also, the instructors know what the grading scale is, and can structure their exams/hw/evaluations accordingly.
At my NS, you need 63% © to pass nursing classes and 50% to pass electives. For some reason, the nursing schools in the States use higher grading scales...90% of the people I know wouldnt pass if we had to get 80% or higher in each class. At my friends nursing school in Ontario, she needs a min. of 60% to pass a nursing class). I think I would fail NS lol if I had to have 80's to pass a class. It seems like NS in the part of Canada I live in at least have similar grading scales
That is downright scary!!!
I think I'm gonna start asking for transcripts before I let someone do anything major to me!
50%???...one should be able to guess that well without looking! :flmngmd:
(I really hope this isn't true at all!!!!!)
96-100 = A93-95 = B
89-92 = C
An 89 just to pass? I may never complain about my school's grading scale ever again.
Speaking of which,
80-86: C (minimum passing grade)
87-93: B
94+: A
Rumor has it they consider rounding grades, but I've never seen it happen to anyone I know, so I don't know how valid the rumor is.
It's funny though: I had to take a non-NS class over the summer which was on the normal grading scale (80-90 a B, 91+ an A). I couldn't get used to that, I kep thinking I was going to end up with a B in the class when I was running a 92 :)
