Just out of curiosity, what is everybody elses grading system like?? For me, we must have a 78 or higher to pass and that is considered a C.
A: 93-100
B: 85-92
C: 78-84
Also, it goes towards your GPA in that manner. For instance, if your grade is a 92, they record it as a B and you only get 3.0 for it. I think this stinks and it is making my GPA drop. I dont mind it for the program, but for my final records I am upset.
I just started school, and my grading scale is the same. (78%=lowest C) I am a good student, but it is scarry knowing you have to do better than normal. Our professors said it was because they are getting us ready to pass the NCLEX-RN and they have a comparable pass scale. Also they said to remember C=RN. No one is going to ask for your GPA when you are trying to get a job after school. Hope this helps!!!

i'm trying to remind myself that C=RN too, although i don't know how well i would accept more than one C!... i didn't find out until yesterday that the nursing grading scale was different than the pre-reqs, needless to say i'm a little stressed!
3rd Semester, Pediatrics/OB. Rest of program similar.
A. METHOD OF EVALUATION:Course grades will be based upon the following percentages:
Final Exam 25%
Unit exams 60%,
Quizzes and other assignments 5%
HESI exam 10%
=100%
Students must achieve a minimum of 75% in order to pass RNSG 1251.
Grade Scale: A= 90 - 100, B= 83 - 89, C= 75 - 82, D= 65 - 74, F= 64 or below.
To pass course you must have a final percentage of 75 or greater. There will be no rounding up, example: 74.99% is a D.

Oh and by the way, your grades will definately help you score the job you want as a new nurse. Also, when you apply as a student nurse/tech, lots of places hire students w/ the highest grades first! So think about that. But, why would you settle for a C anyways? If you ask me, I wouldnt want a nurse to take care of my family who barely knows what they are doing.
Our nursing instructors tell us to remember that C=RN because they know how much pressure we put on ourselves. Everone who gets in to a nursing program anymore is a good student. Just the requirements to apply are rough!! I am good at critical thinking, but the first test is really freaking me out! I have a lot on me plate, besides going to nursing school. I am a perfectionist, and have a 4.0 gpa so far for my pre-reqs. I just know that I can't put that much pressure on myself especially when the grading scale is tougher. However, I went to a private school till 8th grade, and my grading scale was a 7 point scale. I did fine then, I am sure I'll do good now. By the way-where I live the hospitals do not look at gpa. The school I am going to is very respected in the area and just graduating from my school puts us at the top of the list for hires.
student456,
I am just curious as to where you do go to school in canada?
I'm getting ready to apply to schools through out canada and I saw a reply that you posted that said that you and your friends got in right away with 65%-75% grades, and I was just wondering where this was at?
thank you!

I bet if you ask most canadian graduates of a BSCN program they have similar grading scales, if not then, maybe a little higher.
I checked out the websites of several universities in my province that have the exact same grading scale for their BSCN program...63% for nursing, 50% for non nursing / electives. In fact, my university based BSCN 4 year program only requires a 50% to pass anatomy and physiology (its a year long 26 week course)
For example, the University of Toronto (in Ontario, Canada) is a very good nursing school - its the biggest university in the province, if not all of Canada if I am not mistaken! They have like 50 thousand students in total and it says on their website that "Note: For all NUR courses the passing grade point value is 1.7", which is a 60 - 62% by their grading scale.

I'm not complaning...its just nursing school is graded differently down here than in the States for some reason
. I know if I had to pass every class with a 80% like alot of you guys do, I don't think I would pass nursing school! :X
I guess the US doesnt care that much because they hire Canadian grads like crazy and we produce great nurses!
