Grades, Gre Scores, Experience, etc...

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

I have looked up information regarding statistics for those who have been accepted into anesthesia school and haven't found information regarding the average of grades, GRE scores, years of experiences, certifications, etc. Remember when you were applying for you undergrad, you could find out information about the incoming class and their average gpa, SAT scores, etc. To those of you who are CRNA's and SRNA's or soon to be SRNA's if you don't mind can you post what your gpa, GRE scores, years of experience, and other information so I can get an ideal of what to do to become a CRNA. Thank you for all that reply!!

Thought I would share my stats.

7 months experience in CCU, small community hospital.

Overall GPA 3.1, Nursing GPA 3.0. No advanced classes. Just standard nursing school sciences (Chem 1, A&P 1,2, Bio 1). Have numerous Cs and even failed O&B Lecture and took it over and received a B, the F was still on records. As for the GRE, was not a need at the school I applied to. I applied to 1 school and got in. I have been reading this site for over 3 years and this is the first time I have posted and will not be the last. Just wanted to say that I have read a lot of emails over these past years about peoples grades and whether or not a memeber thinks they will "get in or not". Every applicant has something to bring to the school they apply to. The difference is finding that special part of yourself and sharing that area with the school you apply to. If every person had 5 years exp., 3.8 GPA and perfect GRE scores then it would basically be a random pick of SRNAs. I believe it's the personality that matters not so much the grades. I am just an average 24 year old guy who happens to love nursing and more importantly life. I wanted each and every person who reviewed my application to unerstand that. The schools like students who are going to fit it and work their A$$ off in the OR and in the lecture room. Schools want fun and interesting students to teach not boring people. Furthermore, I would hope that each school just wants you to be you and nothing more. Well I just wanted to share my thoughts. Thanks for reading and good luck to all current and soon to be SRNAs.

Rubin, you must have some great personal qualities or other pluses to have gotten into the only school you applied to with less-than-fabulous grades. I got two Cs in my nursing program, and a D from years back, and I was afraid they would be obstacles despite my 3.4 GPA. I think schools really do look at different qualities, which is why applying to several works out well for many people. Congrats on getting in! I'm envious you only did ONE application and interview! The applications were like a full-time job for a bit.

personally i don't think being a doctor is the end all be all. think about the training and time commitment is requires. but think of it another way too. a lot of us are late bloomers. we didn't head to school right after high school with the intent of going to med school. we went out and lived life and learned for personal experience. then when we decided to go back to school we wanted to help people. so we went in to nursing. after being in nursing we realized that we had more to offer and saw nurse anesthesia as a way to do that. so we went for it. it's a great field and it isn't for everyone. but to say that everyone who is intelligent and gets good grades should become a doctor is sad. every profession needs motivated and intelligent people. decide what path is best for you and go for it. nurse anesthesia was mine, med school may be yours.

How old is too old for CRNA school? I will be 45 or maybe 46 before I apply.

Thanks,

I have a criminal justice degree and my GPA is 2.8. I graduated aomost 10 years ago and I am starting to take my pre-reqs for an accelerated BSN program next month. My ultimate goal is to become a CRNA and I know that I will really have to study hard and get good grades to have a chance. I currently work in law enforcement and I think my experience will be a plus when it comes to the interview.

When I was in college, I was immature and I didn't take my education seriously. This time around I will be all business.

You're not too old unless you're dead. Go for it.

Thanks. I am taking the next step this fall...starting an accelerated BSN program. This is crazy at 43, but I don't want any regrets in the rocking- chair years so...here goes everything.

I just turned 49 and will be starting CRNA school in August 2005 at Florida International University. I can't wait!
