Here is a place that we could start discussing the next part of our journey in nursing school.
Has anyone read the book they suggested in our acceptance letters? I bought it off amazon and I am excited to read it!!!

Hello everyone,I mailed my confirmation letter, passport photo and receipt to Mrs. Creel 2 weeks ago but I have not got any feedback yet. Is there anyone who did not received the feedback as me?
Thank you.
I emailed the nursing department to confirm they got my packet and they got back to me very quickly stating that they did...I didn't want to take any chances either haha!
FutureGaRN15 or anybody else that can chime in...
I have many questions:
-Is the Prestige Medical stethoscope a good brand? I used it last year in my Introduction to Health Care class. I didn't use it much, so I'm not sure if it's good or not for our nursing program.
-I know we will be contacted in May, but can you share what we need to start looking for in terms of uniforms and shoes -or- should we wait for the information session since things may change?
-Did you take NURS 0199? I know it's a good class to learn calculations, but not required. I was trying to take it, but had to make some plan changes to take my CNA certification this summer along with Microbiology. I don't know if the extra NURS 0199 would be too much. If I can pick the information up in the regular nursing course without a problem, I may wait.
-I know we need to have our vaccinations: Hep B (3 series), Tetorifice, Chicken Pox or titer, etc. Did I miss any? I remember the same shots were needed for the CNA course I had to drop out of this semester.
-Do you have any information on our background check such as what company to use? Does the school tell us where they want us to go?
Thank you.
Lienbert where are you taking your cna class and how is the schedule? I am trying to decide if I want to do it! I can't answer your questions but I think we have to have the mmr vaccine as well. I asked about shoes and got this response
"Types of Shoes Worn with Uniforms: Shoes must be solid white leather-type nursing or sport/walking shoes. Clean white shoes only must be worn; no clogs, no crocs or open toes. Shoes and laces must be clean."
i was told black soles was NOT acceptable which stinks because my favorite shoes had that:(
if you go to the nursing department web page and enter the student portal there is a link on the left for the 2013-2015 handbook...I know it's not our class but there's some good info in it!
Lienbert,
To answer your questions, I first bought a cheaper stethoscope from Meridys (where you will purchase your uniform) and it did just fine! I recently splurged for a littmann and I love it. But I wouldn't worry to much I'm sure the one you have will be just fine!
Shoes are like what milesamelia stated, solid white and leather.
I did not take the NURS 0199. I personally did fine with my dosage calculations but I've always been strong in math. You can always get free tutoring as well. I recommend you learn the dimensional analysis way of doing dosage calculations. Ever since I learned that way it has made it so much easier as long as you know your conversions. There is a math test every semester that you must make a 100 on, you get 3 chances. I do recommend you do your CNA certification. I really wish I had thought of that before I started. I'm trying to find a job as a PCT now and I'm struggling since I have no experience other than school and no certifications :/
Vaccines you will need include Hep B, Tetorifice, Chicken pox or titer, MMR, TB test, and flu shot but you can get that after the semester starts. I believe that's all... they will let you know in the email.
They will send you the info for the background check/drug test in the email as well as a code for meridys to order GPC uniforms.
You will also need to get your CPR certification
I hope I covered everything! And keep in mind things can always change but that is the way it was with my class. Good luck!
I took my CNA course at Giving Care Education Center in Woodstock. It was a great experience. It took about 5 weeks, since I took the night class. The day class only takes about 3 weeks. The certification test is usually about a month after the course ends. PM me if you are considering enrolling there, so you can tell them I sent you their way.

Thanks for the welcome everyone!!
Yeah, I went and made my payment at the Clarkston campus last Wednesday. Then, I hand delivered the photos, receipt, and form to the Nursing office, and they said that they will be sending out an email to everyone in May with more information.
