3.4 gpa-doomed?

Published

I have recently gone back to college to become an RN, and my previous school record wasn't the most stellar. :/ But my program itself (cytology) that I did previously, I rocked it...but because of the past prereqs which were not so hot, I'm only sitting at 3.4 gpa and have retaken all I have to able to....

Just curious if others have gone through the same, and am I likely looking at an uphill battle to get in?

Thanks!!!!!

You should be fine. I had a 3.0 and got in with a good TEAS and admission essay to one of the most exclusive schools in my area.

Man, did everyone drink the "OFFEND ME" juice today?

Calm down, people. You'd think that poor poster shot a child or something.

My first year I went to a university and took the first biology and got a c. & studied really hard. When I switched to a CC the first semester, I retook bio because I thought it'd be much easier. WRONG! It was twice as hard. It was the same exact information but the tests were just so much harder. I studied so hard and read the book and came out with a c again.

But I retook college algebra and it was a lot easier at the cc because the teacher curved the grade, where as at the university they didn't. So it really just depends on the teacher and on who makes the test. I know my friend was in another teachers class at the cc and he didn't curve the grade so it was a lot harder for her. It all depends on a lot of different variables.

Actually it is not, and I'm sorry if my "reversal" question confused you. However I remain in my stance that not all college courses are on the same level. Alas, I don't know where you are getting that assumption. If that was the case then why would some schools be at risk for losing accreditation? Also, it is very ignorant for you to say that because an institution is seen as being prestigious it is not challenging. That's like saying Harvard or Yale aren't difficult. You just may believe that your school is hard, and that's just fine, but don't discredit others.

See, now you're just being pompous. There is no 'confusion' here. And at no point did I say an institution being prestigious is not challenging - it is in fact you who is saying an institution that isn't prestigious isn't challenging - which I've been arguing against. You're the one discrediting cc's and lesser schools than big names you mentioned...are you really this out of touch with reality?

NEVER did I say that because an institution isn't perceived as being prestigious it isn't challenging so it seems as if you're arguing against something that you misread. What I DID say is that CC aren't as challenging and I stick by that opinion based on MY experiences. Are you really this set on being rude that you aren't comprehending correctly?

What you did is discredit an entire subsection of the American education system. Many of us here on the boards went to or are students at community colleges and technical schools. ADN programs, are traditionally from them after all. Just because they are different does not make them less. For some students they are the best or only options. One thing nursing students are encouraged to do is to accept and act on feed back. Perhaps now is the time to accept the feedback that your personal experiences do not mean all community colleges are easy As.

No. What I did do is state my opinion, as did everyone else (as they should). I took a couple of classes at CC in the summer and I feel as if they were easier than those I took at a university. Never did I say that anyone who went to or graduated from a CC is less worthy/educated/etc because I don't believe that is true. Others on this thread stated that they felt as if there CC courses were actually harder, but did I get offended or feel "discredited"? No. So I don't see why others should. Also, the "feedback" that you have provided is nothing more than your opinion and it means no more than mine.

I've taken courses at two community colleges during the summer after attending a 4 year university and yes those community college courses were far easier. So it's nothing wrong with attending a CC but yes the courses are easier. But if telling yourself they aren't helps you sleep better at night then go right ahead.

Here's you, telling us that you're right, we're wrong, but hey whatever let's you sleep at night. So your summer courses were easy. That happens. Summer classes either tend to be harder or easier because of the condensed quarter. I wouldn't have an issue if all you did was state an opinion but that's not what you did.you implied that those of us staying different where deluding ourselves.

Yet, I was called being "out of touch with reality", but my feelings are still in tact. And yes, I do believe that I am right and you believe that you are. Do I agree with you? No.

I was going to stop responding, but this right here is what appears to be the problem. You make it about you. You threw out that CC

Lol doesn't seem as if you tried to hard not to respond, huh? Anyways...I don't feel attacked at all. I see it as people expressing their opinions on a board meant for that exact purpose. So, no, that is not what appears to be the problem. Second, when did I say going to a private university means more than getting a Bachelor's degree? What sense does that make? Do you not get a Bachelor's degree from a private university? Now do I think that getting a Bachelor's degree (in nursing in my case) is better than getting an Associate's? Yes, for me it is. Other people think that getting an BSN is not necessary, and for them it may not be needed. That's fine also. Does that make them any less of a person? Of course not. I never said that. However, you are correct in saying that your comments are just your opinion, because they are just that, nothing more.

I think no matter what shape or size it comes in, obtaining an education is better than none. It doesn't matter where, it matters what you make and what you do with the education you receive. Period. =)

There are people who got into my program around there. The average here for spring is always lower than the one for fall entrance for some reason. I think spring was a 3.6 something, and last fall was a 3.89. Just do well on your entrance exam and I'm sure you'll be fine.
