Got surprised at work yesterday.

Published

I am NEVER late for work. Well, yesterday I was, but only a few minutes (got caught at the crosswalk). Get in the elevator and there is THE boss of the nurses. She is staring at my badge and I am perplexed.

Get off on my floor and go into the workroom to put my stuff away. My boss' boss is there. Now I am embarrassed that I am late. Rattling on about the lights not changing and about 20 of us stuck on the wrong side of the road.

Start report and we all get called to the front for an "in-service" There is THE boss again, with a giant replica check and she is announcing a winner of one of our nursing awards for the year. IT WAS ME! I had NO idea.

I will be recognized at a big party and I get a small education stipend. It is quite an honor. There were over 200 nurses nominated, it is a peer nominated award and am one of 35 to receive it.

I feel very grateful. So many times it is the "squeaky wheels" that get the attention and I am not that kind of person at all.

Some days are great days.

then I had an RRT, the moment was over! (pt was ok)

Sorry for the RRT, you know that RRTs happen when everything/everyone seems nice/quiet/easy/happy on the floor lol

By the way, i seriously thought that you were telling us your story of getting fired for being late while the "big wigs" were on your floor, haha! I was really nervous for you!
