Dear all, as you all know i have been accepted and today we had the follow up with financial aid, because i did not have my green card on hands yet FAFSA did not approve me for any loans, therefore i would have no way to start my nursing school, this is so disappointing, well, since my social security is brand new, there was not a way for me to get a private loan, i need to come up with 6.400dollars for the first semester wich i was not able to get approved, i will be able to get my green card soon but the school cant wait, and they said i have to get a loan for my first semester ASAP or i will not be able to start.
It is frustrating that i went trough all i went and now will have to come to a dead stop, and God knows when i will be able to start my classes, over 6 months of hard study and preparation in order to get accepted, but just because a piece of plastic i wont be able to aquire my stafford loan or grants.
I am sick to my stomach, wifey and i just got on our feet, and we do not have not even 1/4 of that cash.
I just dont know what to do anymore, have attempted everything, and the crazzy feeling inside that makes me want to burst and yell... it is just too much, it is hard ew life, wife, dealling with imigration, working, and now this mad bomb is dropped!!!
i wish there was a way i could get a loan for my first semester, but with no credit how can i????
does anyone knows what can i do at this point and time? i can't barely think straight...
any tips any advice .. any place i could get a loan...?
I'm really sorry to hear about your situation. Is there any way to defer your acceptance? Even if you have to wait a year before starting at least there would be light at the end of the tunnel and if you can defer then maybe you won't have to go through the application process again.
Good luck and keep us posted!
I think what the others said was a good idea. Contact a local news station for donation... even a church. What about free grants? I really hope all works out. We pre-nursing students have worked hard to get where we are... especially for us parents who work full time and go to school full time as well. Best of luck to you!!!
Thank you all, problem solved...
When I read your first post in this thread I was like, "NO!" You are one of the most upbeat, positive people here - and I know that after only a short time - and I'm so looking forward to any posts you can find time to make once you are in school.
However the financial issues were solved, I'm so happy for you.
You go, Big Guy!

Csantos,
I am so sorry! I've seen your posts throughout the board and was happy when you were accepted into a program. The only other thing I can think of is scholarships. There are plenty out there! With your time crunch they'll be difficult to get in time. Keep in touch and let us know what happens.

I am glad you solved your problem. I personally have been lucky so far with financial aid, but every semester I worry about it. What if something doesn't go through or happens etc.
My backup plan has always been to ask my dad to cosign on a loan for me even though he doesn't know it yet.
How did you solve your problem? It might help the rest of use if we find ourselves in a similar situation.
I have a question...why won't your FAFSA kick in for the first semester? When does the semester start?
If it's this Fall, then there is no reason why it can't be. You don't have to have ANY credit for Federal Student loans.
PM me with more details if you like...I may be able to get you in the right direction.

I'm hoping that your last post ment that you had found a way to pay for classes. If not, go to your school and ask about every scholarship they offer. Go to your church(if you have one) and do the same. Many states and hospitals offers scholarships to residents/employees if you agree to work for them a certain amount of time after you graduate. DO NOT GIVE UP! If there is a will, there IS a way.
