I enjoy ready nurse novels especially ones with a focus on Critical care, ER, ICU, flight nursing, etc. I have all of the Echo Heron books, Trauma Junkie, Life Star 1, Operation Flight Nurse, Dr. Robert Leslie books, any suggestions outside of those would be greatly appreciated
This isn't related to ER but it was excellent and I recommend this to every nurse - The Comfort Garden: Tales from the Trauma Unit by Laurie Barkin.
I came across this list of recommended books for nurses, maybe you find something interesting - Reading Roundup: 7 Recommended Books for Nurses | NurseTogether.com
This is not a novel; it is more of an autobiography and commentary on the lack of transparency in healthcare.
It was written in a readable and informative style for the layperson. The book is Unaccountable by Michael McClary, a surgeon and MPH at Hopkins and published in 2012. This book has nothing to do with the ongoing healthcare reform debate. I highly recommend it to anyone who is seeking an understanding of modern medicine.
Not necessarily nursing related book but recently finished Stiff by Mary Roach. Really interesting read about cadavers and death. Highly recommend checking it out!
I'm in the process of reading it. Just picked it up at a garage sale. Sometimes gets a bit gruesome and I have to put it down for a bit. But definitely a fascinating read.

This is a great book! I read it a few years ago. She wrote a few others. I read Gulp, but it's nowhere near as interesting. (or as gross!) Recommended.
I just started the new (old, the interviews and chapters on the nurses were done circa 9/11/01) Echo Heron ER book.
The 9/11 stores are right on the money, my husband and tons of my friends were down there, and reading this is like talking to them. Glad it was finally published.
Also, St. Vincent's is mentioned frequently. When they closed my old hospital absorbed a lot of those nurses- mostly diploma and some of the best nurses I've ever worked with.
One of my favorites is Home Before Morning: The Story of an Army Nurse in Vietnam by Lynda Van Devanter.
I loved this book. I've read it several times.
This is an older book, but the book Nurse by Peggy Anderson is an excellent read. My Mom made me read this before I started applying to nursing school.

That was a great book! I read it 2 weeks ago. I love her other book (Tending Lives) that similar in that it interviews nurses who worked at local hospitals during the Oklahoma City bombings. I wish she would write more in this style because I like reading the different perspectives.

Another good novel written by a nurse based on her Viet Nam war experiences: The Healer's War" by Elizabeth Ann Scarborough.
