Golden West College (GWC) ADN Fall 2023

Hey!  It might be a little early to start this, given that applications aren't open yet, but I noticed that the multi-criteria points system was updated in September 2022.  I thought I remembered being in better shape when I looked at the old points system in past semesters ? so I was curious to hear from anyone else who is planning to apply and see where we all stand.  

I haven't taken the TEAS yet, but not including my TEAS score I have 56 points so far, and I'll have a max of 81 depending on my score.

luckily I scored high enough on the TEAS to get full points in that category, for a total of 81 points. I'm feeling fairly optimistic about getting an acceptance, but I'm also feeling hopeful about getting into one of the BSN programs I applied to, which would be my preference. I'm looking at GWC and Saddleback as backups if the BSN programs don't pan out, and GWC is way closer and more convenient for me, but I'm curious if you've heard anything negative about the program.

tbh I have heard it actually similar to Saddleback program and most people who get into both just go to the ones that closer in proximity to them. Im only going off a bad impression by one of the teachers I took who I believe may not actually even be part of the program anymore. Take my perspective on this w a grain of salt tbh.

oh okay, good to know, thanks! that's also the general impression I've been under, that GWC and saddleback are fairly similar. the one thing I do know about GWC is that they do at least some of their clinicals at UCI, I work in the ED there and I've seen GWC nursing students. personally, that's a plus for me! although I'm not sure if students get to pick their clinical locations, maybe I should ask next time I see one, haha

welp...I just hope the curve is in my favor

Hoping for a miracle because I really want to go to an affordable school for nursing! 

Will be submitting my application as soon as I find out they have one of my other transcripts on file. My points are on the lower end, but I hope something amazing happens!

Hello all,

I'm Kenji and a 3rd Semester student at GWC. Sorry I did not say "Hi!" early but this semester has been a little bit busier than I'm used to. If you have questions let me know.

I'm also part of the CNSA and membership is open to both Nursing and Pre-Nursing Students. Our meetings are Tuesdays on the third week of each month via Zoom. I can't post our website here, but you can see it at the Nursing building on campus.

@muses_ I don't know for sure as I think they are transitioning from the old application system (submissions every semester) to the current 1 time annual submission. If I get any word through the admissions office or the CNSA, I will post here.

Applying with 62 points as well. They definitely changed their point system. Bachelor's degree used to be worth 10 points. I had work experience in a clinical setting but it was more than 3 years ago ?

the confirmation email I got after submitting my application said the review would last 2 months, so I'm thinking May? but I'm not sure

Yes! On the school website it says notifications will be sent by May 31,2023 for fall 2023 and Spring 2024.
