  1. I think they do, but not a lot of admits
  2. even the second years haven't gotten theirs yet, there seems to be some issue.
  3. I want to preface this by saying that they completely overhauled the curriculum, which was the final straw for the old teachers to finally leave, who were amazing. Because if they had stayed, then they would need to read the entire book again and change how the way the class is taught and change the tests which takes a lot of time. Because of this curriculum change, you guys will have a bit more challenging of a time then when I was a first year nursing student. Classes are more condensed and you guys will be having the new professors which aren't helpful tbh. I'm not entirely sure if fundamentals and med-surg 1 will be all powerpoint to be honest, but what I can say is that OB, Pharm, and any class with huang is all from the book, and you basically have to read. and it was brutal. Even the ones that are passing or naturally smart have all expressed stress because the studying is kinda insane even in nursing school standards. Just look up "rio hondo class schedule" should be the first one on the Google search and you can look up the lists of professors that will be teaching your class.
  4. the biggest factor for this school is having a bachelor's degree and really high science pre-req GPA. The TEAS probably ranks a close 2nd.
  5. you can read my post on the first page of this thread and the last page of the 2024 thread through my profile to get a better picture. in short, new curriculum that crams everything into a smaller time frame, coupled with completely new professors who lack passion = a mess Yes, they have a good reputation, but I feel like we were much better with the old professors who actually cared about this, the only reason for the good NCLEX scores is because the schools roots out a lot of students, just look at the attrition rate.
  6. they recently changed their curriculum that should replace the old 151 class. where else did you get accepted? I been commuting to the school as well, and traffic does get pretty bad in the mornings, other wise its fine since classes end before rush hour. but clinical sites can be in Whittier, Montebello, and LA. as well as chino for the psych rotation
  7. To answer your other questions: 1. If I knew what I was coming into before I chose RHC, I would easily pick the 1 1/2 hr long commute to another school. The other schools around the area are much easier than RHC, remember the goal of nursing school at the end of the day is to pass the NCLEX, you don't want to waste money on school that isn't going to even help you pass nursing school, because then it's just a waste of time and money. Now if the old professors were still here, I would recommend RHC a little bit more, but I can no longer recommend them due to this. 2. As someone that has talked to a lot of my peers we all agreed that if we knew that this was going to be the situation we were going to be in, we wouldn't have chose RHC. I can't really recommend a good time but if you wanted to talk to other students there is one class RN taking adv pharm and med surg 3 this term, you can catch them on their break in between those classes. I won't specify the exact time, but you can search it on the RHC class schedule. I think a lot of us though have glowing reviews for the old professors, but again, the new professors just don't share their same passion. 3. I wouldn't worry about prepping before nursing school, because no amount of studying can prepare you for the tests at RHC, it's very critical thinking focused. Just enjoy your time before you enter. But dosage calculations are good to know though because you will be doing a lot of those, so I'd say practice getting good at that. Everything else you will learn along the way, get ready to read a lot as well once you enter your OB rotation.
  8. I'd can only assume the reason for the high NCLEX results is because they root out the bad test takers since they have such a high attrition rate. This school is not scared to dump students. But I will say that I do feel like the clinical experience in the school is great, but the theory side is lacking. To preface, I was lucky to take Fundamentals and Med Surg 1 with the old professors, but you guys will have a totally new professors who haven't taught these classes for a long time. Not to mention the school is short staffed which explains the horrible theory experience a lot of students have been facing, so we had the same teacher teach Pharm 1, ADV Pharm, and Med Surg 3, which is insane, and she's a horrible teacher to boast too. To give you some background, this school just changed it's curriculum and how the classes are set up. Before the change, Fundamentals was a semester long class that you take on its own, but with the change it is now a quarter long class (8 weeks, instead of 16 weeks), not only that you will be taking it together with Pharmacology which is a very difficult class here, and then you will take Med Surg 1 the next quarter along with Pharmacology as well for your first term. So actually, your experience at this school will be extremely tough out of the gate, because not only will you need to pass skill check offs, but you need to pass med check offs all in one-term, meanwhile with the old curriculum, we took Fundamentals as it's own class before taking med surg 1 and pharm.
  9. my advice is not to go, especially if u have other acceptances. this is probably one of the hardest nursing programs in socal, meanwhile my other friends in other programs have a much easier time.
  10. I will say that the senior teachers that taught before your class were great which is where the reputation came from so I feel bad that you guys don't get to experience that. everything came from the powerpoints because they actually took time to read the book and made sure everything that was needed to be known on the test was on the powerpoints. But the new teachers kinda suck, they even told us that they made the test hard on purpose to help us prepare for the NCLEX, but the problem with that is that they don't teach us what might be on the test or to think critically, we have to do that on our own. they also are still looking for staff to take over Pharm and other classes as well, which makes sense because the quality is horrible in those classes. In the end, the NCLEX rates at rio were good because of the old teachers. my cohort is the last cohort that got to experience the old teachers except for advanced pharm and med surg 2 because one of the senior teachers stopped teaching last semester.
  11. not sure if they changed their scoring but according to their scale RN, I had 55 points. although Citrus puts heavy emphasis on cumulative GPA and healthcare experience which is what I lacked in.
  12. I will say this, look at the attrition rates for schools instead of the NCLEX pass rates. choose a school with a low attrition rate. sometimes I feel like this school is trying to root out students versus helping them succeed. also check out who the professors are for the courses in the school's class schedule and see their reviews on ratemyprofessor. if rio hondo is the only school you can get into, then so be it, but just be prepared to be worked extremely hard once you're done with fundamentals and med surg 1.
  13. hey guys adn student here at rio, I don't want to scare anyone, but unless you are naturally smart, I would advise going somewhere else instead of rio, all of the old instructors have practically left this program due to reaching retirement age, and the new crop of professors here aren't the best. basic pharmacology was a nightmare because I had to self teach myself and I only barely passed by a fraction of a percentage. and its the same with OB, you will not have any time to relax at all once you get past med surg 1. im currently taking advanced pharm and med surg 2 and its horrible, everything is basically self taught and the instructions don't really help you to prepare for the exams. I basically had to quit work because of how much studying is going into these two classes alone. It's an entirely new professor teaching this and its not great. don't let the great NCLEX scores fool you.
