Golden West College (GWC) ADN Fall 2023

Updated:   Published

Hey!  It might be a little early to start this, given that applications aren't open yet, but I noticed that the multi-criteria points system was updated in September 2022.  I thought I remembered being in better shape when I looked at the old points system in past semesters ? so I was curious to hear from anyone else who is planning to apply and see where we all stand.

I haven't taken the TEAS yet, but not including my TEAS score I have 56 points so far, and I'll have a max of 81 depending on my score.

it was my personal email! and they just sent a clarification email stating that no applicants have received final notifications.

Hi! I am a 1st semester nursing student at GWC. I just wanted to drop in and let you know that they increased the number of spots by almost double. This coming fall they are accepting 79 spots instead my cohort is 54 spots. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions. That definitely gives you more chances to get in.

I guess one of the reasons why they are accepting more students is because they opened up their lvn-RN bridge program again (which they only offer for the fall semester). Thanks for the info btw! My hopes of getting in are higher now, but at the same time still nervous because I only applied for the bridge program (which is only lottery based).

Hello everyone,

Congrats to those who got in!! Seems @violet_flower has got you all covered, and they will be a better source than me since I'm with on the old system (I'm 3rd semester). What I can tell you all is that GWC was going to expand to 80 per semester a few years back but COVID - like it did to everything else - made them put that on hold for a bit. Now that things are starting to return to normal, they got re-approved by the BRN to expand their program.

They also got approval for the concurrent enrollment with CSU San Bernardino (the only CC in Orange County to do it!) so the program is looking good right now. Some of you will be lucky enough to do this, while others will be in the "traditional" Associate's in Nursing Program (what we are doing now).

Like I said, Violet_flower is a better source, but if I can help, let me know. If you have questions, feel free to post here or DM me.

Again, congrats to those who got in, and those who are waiting: Hang in there!! Case in point, I did not get in on my first try, but I did eventually end up where I wanted to go most.

Take care,

Kenji

I am not familiar with the lvn-RN bridge program so the 79 spots I am referring to is for the ADN for fall 2023.

Also as @Kenji12345 mentioned some of you are very lucky to take part in the newly offered concurrent BSN with CSUSB. I don't know if they announced it yet or how they pick who gets to do the BSN in concurrent with GWC ADN. My professor told me that only 25 out of the 79 would be able to do the BSN with CSUSB, but no idea how they will pick which students get to. With that said, for those who will have the opportunity to do the concurrent BSN, you will take BSN classes at the same time as GWC nursing classes while others who are just doing the ADN will just have GWC nursing classes alone.

But honestly, I originally tried to get into a ABSN program since I really wanted to do an BSN and finish quick, but now that I am at GWC, I am glad I am in this program. Just the nursing classes alone its a lot with lab and clinicals so I can't imagine taking BSN classes at the same time (that's just me). I am also planning to do the coenroll in the summers to do my BSN so I think it works out a lot better. GWC ADN has summers off so you have the option to coenroll to do your BSN or take the Summer off entirely.

Hi there,

Has anyone else heard anything from GWC?

Not yet ?

Nothing on my end yet either. I have 76 points. Does this make me competitive?

Yes! My points are pretty low so I'm already assuming that I won't get in for fall 23 or Spring 24. Went to check to see what I can do to improve and new multi criteria ?. The senior healthcare tech cert is free though, just have to pay for books and supplies... I think.

They updated it in April, after we all applied. So I hope they aren't incorporating that into this application cycle. What are your points if you don't mind me asking? Did you get accepted to any other schools for fall?

I don't think they will for this cycle. My CNA cert was expired and I wasn't able to get it renewed in time so I ended up apply to GWC with 57 points. I was an alternate at Rio hondo for Summer start and they recently offered me a position but I declined since I hadn't started working on the packet. I didn't think I was going to finish by the deadline. I was denied from LBCC and Santa Ana. How about you?
