Hi I'm a nursing student working two jobs as a tech on ICU and aide at nursing home. I'm about a month into the jobs and being up on my feet 24/7 is already taking an amazing toll on my feet. I wake up in the morning and its really painful just to walk around. I'm off today and just walking around everywhere is ridiculous with the pain. Whats the inside secret (God, please let there be one) on how best to learn how to deal with this or avoid. Are there particular shoes out there that help. If so, please let me in on the brand and EXACT model shoe. I'm dieing over here and I feel like a total wuss for posting this. I'm a guy too so my ego is going out window when I'm talking about something like this (booo hooo don't cry for me Argentina!). :crying2:
Any and all help is appreciated!

I like these!

In fact, I don't wear any of my 8000 pairs of shoes anymore- even when I'm not working ...and they're all "comfort" shoes, too.

Head to some specialized shoe store and pay out the nose for some good shoes. You will be glad you did.
Everyone has different ideas. Some wear Asics (sp) running shoes, some swear by Sanita and Dansko.
I wear Timberland and Sanita. Can't wear Dansko.
Good luck and I hope the tootsies feel better.
Oh, might add, if the pain persists, you might want to see a foot dr.
Much appreciated!

I definitely agree with tokmom- go to a specialty place and get fitted. They will loook at the way you walk and find shows that support you where you need to be supported.
I have friends who swear by Danskos, but they kill my feet. I wear $30 Crocs and am fine, while others wouldn't last a night in them.

Yup--go to a good running store and have them help you. I pronate badly and with the shoes I wear now never have any pain. Once you figure out your shoe, you can go online and dig for good deals.

I suggest you talk to a podiatrist. Could be plantar fasciatis. At the very least he/she can advise you on footwear and any extra support you need. I wear Easy Spirit airsoles. They look like the toner shoes, but the heal is really gel and very supportive.

You may want to go to a podiatrist to see what is going on. There may be more than just shoes that is causing the problem. Another sticky issue: are you carrying around more weight than you should?
Another question: what shoes are you wearing. I had similar problems and I bought numerous shoes till I found a brand that work. I can't wear clogs as I have a very narrow footwith high instep. The SAS [aka San Antonio Shoe Company] lace up shoes worked for me. They have numerous styles but the ones that work for me are not that stylish but do the job. Company offers a huge amount of lengths and widths. They are pricy but, for me, worth the splurge.

I wear New Balance running shoes with Dr Scholl orthotic inserts (I got at a drugstore). My feet only hurt when i have killer nights now, before it was an every day occurence.

In the mean time, I got this at Walmart. And just rubbing it on, my feet feel so much better. I know its for her but my dad used it once and even though he complained of the "girly" smell, he really liked it.

If I were you, I would go to a specialized shoe store.

I went to the walking company, got evaluated and got some dansko's. I wore them one day and my feet hurt so bad that I never wore them again. What has worked for me is shape ups surprisingly. They give me the arch support I need and have so much cushion in them that I feel like I'm walking on clouds. My feet never hurt after a busy med/surg shift.

A trick I learned from my waitressing days: wear two pair of socks (and get good shoes).
