Hi I'm a nursing student working two jobs as a tech on ICU and aide at nursing home. I'm about a month into the jobs and being up on my feet 24/7 is already taking an amazing toll on my feet. I wake up in the morning and its really painful just to walk around. I'm off today and just walking around everywhere is ridiculous with the pain. Whats the inside secret (God, please let there be one) on how best to learn how to deal with this or avoid. Are there particular shoes out there that help. If so, please let me in on the brand and EXACT model shoe. I'm dieing over here and I feel like a total wuss for posting this. I'm a guy too so my ego is going out window when I'm talking about something like this (booo hooo don't cry for me Argentina!). :crying2:
Any and all help is appreciated!

I swear by Birkenstocks and SAS shoes. Birkenstocks are difficult to get used to but once you are used to them, they're like walking on nothing at all.
I was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis and bunions. The pf became manageable and the bunions went away with wearing Birkenstocks.
It also helped me alot to soak my feet in hot soapy water after work. I'd make a dishpan full of really hot water and put some dish soap in it and just soak for 15 minutes while I decompressed, watched tv, ate a snack. You have to keep the skin on your feet intact, and this helps as well as helps ease the tiredness and pain.
I'd suggest wearing some sort of support hose - not to worry, no one will never know because they are under your pants (if you are worried about that type of thing with being a guy. maybe not...) I think they really help with the circulation issue in the lower extremities. My legs do not ache as much as they did before when I didn't wear them. The same theory probably applies for wearing two pairs of socks.
I had plantar fasciatis while in nursing school, working full-time and walking was my only mode of transportation: Try icing your feet a couple of times a day, you can wear heel splints at night, always wear supportive shoes and buy new ones when the old ones get too stretched out, stretch your feet as much as possible, and keep off of them whenever you can!
Good luck!
