Gloucester County College Students Sound Off!

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hi folks!

I'm about to enter Nursing 1 at GCC and I thought this would be a pretty opportunity to set up a place to vent and get advise. I'm both excited and nervous about this fall. Maybe it's because every chance the faculty speaks to us, they make it seem we should consider forgetting everything in our lives and just prepare for the most difficult task ever undertaken by man. Not that I think it's not going to be difficult, but common! Anybody else have any thoughts?

Ohh.. and bye the way, Congrats on getting in and God help us!

Do they have a program that starts in the spring (jan) semester or just Sept start?

Just September for now. It's possible that the LPN-RN program might start in the spring, but I have no idea. Best to consult your nursing school admissions book.

Congrats! My daughter did not get accepted. Do you mind telling me your Hesi scores and Science grade. I thought for sure she would get in. Hopefully, she is borderline and may get a call? How long do they give you for confirmation?....Thanks and best of luck!!!!!

If someone decides not to attend GCC, then she may get a call if she was borderline and be able to attend anyway by taking one of those seats. You'd think after all that trouble no one would give up their spot, but truthfully, there were 10-15 in my class who got in that way, so there is still a chance. I applied last year so I doubt my Hesi/Science scores would be accurate for what was required this year. :)

I was offered a slot four months after acceptance letters were mailed out. I did not have stellar grades. I was on the "wait list." It is possible. . .

Congrats! I was hoping for my daughter. She got in the 80's on her HESI and a B in science, I hope she is borderline. Could you please or someone share their portfolio grades. She is so disappoitd and thinking about changing major. Thanks for any info!

A lot of people shared there scores in this thread:

Hope that helps.

I just got in today!!! I am guessing someone did not accept their spot and I was on the wait list... I am super excited !!!! My HESI grades were around 84. and I had an A and a B in my science courses.

I know this is late, but for what it's worth there's still a shot for your daughter if she was borderline. I got accepted into the program with an A- in my science course, and an 85% overall HESI, 91% on the reading which is also 30% of what they look at for the program. As someone above me said, they were just called today. My fingers are crossed for your daughter!

So I know that this is really early, but I know that someone on an early page(and I think back in '07) said that we should get a copy of the Saunders NCLEX Review. I'm wondering is a) this is still a good idea, and b) are there any other books that you guys would recommend to get me started?

I would like to do some reading over the summer, and get a start before classes begin. So any suggestions would be great.

Does any GCC May grads. or any one who grad within the last year or two who want to sell any text books? Please get back to me. I would greatly appreciate it.

From Homemaker2RN,

I'd love to say yes to you; however, I often refer to my textbooks when I have a nursing question. . . try http://www.half.com or http://www.ecampus.com

That'd be me:cool:. . .you should definitely get the 4th Edition Saunder's NCLEX Review, it's what helped me pass nursing school.

It's a great idea. I would also recommend the Evolve HESI Comprehensive Review book for the NCLEX due in part to the 500 questions contained on the CD and the "Hesi Hint Boxes" contained in the book itself.

Good luck, lemme know if you have any questions. . .

P.S. It's never too early to begin preparation for nursing school. . . start reviewing that Saunder's book over the summertime. . .
