Gloucester County College Nursing Fall 2011 Hopefuls?

U.S.A. New Jersey

Hi everyone!

Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~

We just had our clinical orientation...that was cool!

I think that we only need the module 1 exam, but I think I'll bring them all just in case.

Is anyone bringing the nursing kit?It says on the paper that we need it, but my teacher said we didn't since we already did the inventory for it in lab.I guess the people who didn't have lab will need it.I always like to be well prepared so I will probably end up bringing it anyway lol.

You know what...last year we brought our kit and tools every week just in case. What I mean by that is sometimes if there is a free minute you can practice vs, or a specific skill. Of course that is up to your particular lab instructor, but many times they encourage the extra practice if there is time.

Btw, it was nice seeing so many nursing students on campus today! : )

For anyone who has class tomorrow, Do we need to bring our fundamentals book?

How is clinical so far for everyone . .

Can anyone tell me how much the basin that comes w/ the lab kit is supposed to hold and/or the size of it? When I bought my lab kit they didn't have any basins in so they told me just to come back, but when I went back the woman said since I didn't have a receipt w/ me that said that I still needed a basin that I can not have one. Well I don't have the receipt anymore but the reason I didn't bother keeping it was because it had no indication on it that I still needed a basin so I figured they were just giving them out to people that said they still needed one. Other people in my class had the same problem and they said just to go in and demand one, but I'm not a very confrontational person and I feel like I need a backup plan in case that doesn't work so I'm trying to figure out where I can buy one from. Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

It's the larger sized tub/basin that they give out in the hospital. My guess would be 9" x 12" and 7" high? It's a shame you threw the receipt out! They did write on my receipt that I was owed a basin. I wonder why they keep running out of those and not the lab kits. Although they DID actually run out of lab kits now.

First class and lab today. Easy so far, lol. It's all the reading that's killer!

I met Glad today! We're in lab together!

Momtofour, it was nice meeting you finally :) .. I am glad we have lab and clinical together!!!

I am too, Glad! See you in the morning!

I had a wonderfully communicative patient in clinical today. We had a conversation that was largely therapeutic. I need to remember the specifics of the non-therapeutic parts of the conversation. There weren't many, but the conversation fell like a lead weight when they did!

How did everyone enjoy their clinicals this week?

Where are your clinicals this semester Mom?

I can't figure out how they could possibly run out of either...it isn't like they don't know how many Nursing students they have...It is a selective admissions program....all they have to do is make sure they have 87 lab kits and 87 basins on hand. Problem solved...next? Sorry guys the bookstore gets on my nerves...reminds me of Walmart, but at least at Walmart you are getting lower prices. lol

Skeletor, I am at Kennedy. Nice and close for those early mornings! :yeah:

Skeletor and RB2000, did you make up color-coded drug cards? If so, what categories did you separate them into?

Nurse2b2013, doesn't seem very intricate, does it? It IS a required purchase after all!

If anyone is looking for me this weekend, I'll be the one with the Fundamentals book stuck to their face, lol.
