Hi everyone!
Thought I could start this thread for anyone that is applying to the GCC Nursing Program this spring? I'm just getting my portfolio organized and prepared. I have to take the HESI one more time on Feb 24th and attend an info session on Feb 28th and I'm all set. I'm so nervous! But, I'm going to try to be optimistic. I look forward to hearing from you guys :) Take Care~
Has anyone else taken out student loans for other expenses on here? I get a pell grant that pretty much covered my tuition but I need to take one out to pay for childcare and books etc. If anyone has done this, did they cut you a check right away, or did you have to wait? I had to borrow money from family members to pay for books and the numerous other supplies we need and I would like to pay them and my childcare asap.
RB2000, what do they go over in the next three days?
A lot! LOL The information is very helpful though. Nursing school is different from anything that you have ever done before. We have people in my class that have their masters in other fields, and still find this program very demanding. However, the orientation is really set up to help you get a head start once the semester gets rolling. In some ways I wasn't sure how I felt about the orientation when I was going thru it. However, looking back some of the things they went over really made a difference. I will say that you will go over policy & procedure (handbook), you will watch some videos, you will do some role playing, and more. I am not sure how much they would want me share on the internet, so out of respect to the program I will leave it very generic. However, I will be in the lab tomorrow and I will be at your orientation on Thursday. Please do not hesitate to chat with the second year students. Most if not all of us will be more than willing to share helpful tips that we have picked up along the way.
Yep, that's what we need. But I'm bringing a notebook. I still wonder what we'll talk about over these three days. Skeletor?
The instructors told my group to "Look around the room, because in two years, only half of yous will graduate."
They were absolutely correct. 64 (give or take 2-3) of 130 passed the exit HESI examination.
All stress aside, nursing school was so much fun.
